I am surprised at the the percentage of members thinking violence is necessary.

Unfortunately it's the only thing that will break away the layer of apathy covering most American's. The problems are obvious but the politicians refuse to adress them. It's like an army of deckhands rearranging the deck chairs on a sinking ship.

A question,

Do you think Libya's future will be better because of the cost in human lives?

I do.

Something earned is cherished more than something given to you.

As you and I well know blood is shed in the name of good and of evil, only time will tell with Libya,

How is Egypt doing?

Ha! Happily killing Coptic Christians now that they finally have the "freedom" to do so.

Raise your hand if you didn't see that coming. (No one raises their hand).

There is a lesson in that.

The anti-American protests, largely communist in ideology if not in politics, cannot point to a bloodless revolution which secured what they seek. Yet, if American's use violence, then it is roundly condemned.

And here we have Egypt, in a mostly bloodless revolution-- people we heralded in the MSM as literate, tech-savvy, young Egyptians wanting to join the modern world and its freedoms and privileges... resorting to what their culture has done for over a thousand years. They didn't want freedom-- they wanted power to take away the freedoms of others.

It will be no different in Libya-- the Western thought does not apply there. There is no sense of freedom-- there is only a sense of who has control and who does not. So, it seems, it has become in America.

I have a theory. By electing our leaders, we created a means for bloodless revolution. But, we no longer have leaders to elect which are revolutionaries. We simply choose new leaders of our oppression. Obama ran on a "Change" and the most common change was "not Bush" who was not running anyway-- and that change? Zero. Same government, same methods, same false issues to keep the masses preoccupied.

We busied ourselves debating the red-herring of health care reform when it was not the issue. We debate the debt limit, bail outs and job programs. We talk about 9/11 endlessly. The last major move the US government made which truly impacted change which was needed and desired by a thoughtful but mostly silent majority was LBJ's war on racism. To the world, we are a nation of racist-- but only because we fought that battle and are winning it. Obviously, no one else has the guts to fight it, so they just deny it, instead.

IT IS RELATED. The Middle East is racist-- from a tribal level to a worldwide perspective. They have never known tolerance, and do not believe in tolerance. Therefore, they will never know freedom and security. And the US, in the name of tolerance, has compromised to the world view which cannot learn a lesson from America concerning altruism. So, Democrats claim Republicans are evil and visa versa. And many thoughtful person look at both and can see no difference between them. And in looking, thoughtful persons see doom of what is, and violence to birth what will be.

That is not prophecy-- it is history.

I'm not sure we have the guts to fight for anything worthwhile anymore. We only fight to hold to status quo. That is not worth it.

This demonstration should be directed at the Federal Reserve and not Wall Street, the Federal Reserve is the root of the problem. The shame about demonstrations like this is the Government will sit on their ass and let it all pass until there is death, dying and destruction....then they will wake up. I in no way condone any violence but it seems thats what it always takes.

There is no "they". Its only us.

You're absolutely right, there is no "they", and it's all "us". What I am trying to address is the attempts to force a perception of "them vs. us" with all the talk of a "99%" versus a "1%". It looks to me like an attempt to pit one against the other, an attempt at forcing "class warfare" if you will. as long as that is going on, no real solutions will be found, only endless warfare and a vain hope for Valhalla in the end. The "solutions" being put forth are nothing of the kind, they are simply trading the master on the "right" for the master on the "left". BOTH of those masters would be in the "1%", and NONE of them care about the "99%".

That includes the puppet masters pulling the strings of this alleged "movement". they are pulling those strings and using the legitimate complaints of these people, as well as their anger, as a vehicle to accomplish their own ends. There is more organization to this "unorganized movement" than meets the eye.

What im trying to say (and failing miserably because my poor english
) is there is no "they" to blame. OWS are protesting "they" and I agree with you in there is no point in protesting ourselves. But at least we are seeing something wrong in the system where we are living, no matters if is in Egypt, Libia, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Chile, USA or in every place where things aren´t working for the 100% of us.

There's nothing wrong with your English. I personally would prefer to see people get the governments THEY want, in their own countries, without undue outside influences. I don't care in the least about exporting "democracy" to the Arabs. They don't want it, and are not culturally suited to it, and the US ought properly to just leave that alone, help them get the governments THEY want, and at the same time make it clear that we won't have that here. We have our own set of problems that their forms cannot address, and vice versa.

The same goes for "Socialism". "Communism", and all the other collectivist "isms". I don't care if they have it "out there", wherever the people may want it, but I'll die, grave yard dead, too dead to stink, before I'll live to see it here.

Anyway i love the input of ATS members like you, in fact I give you stars because you´re clever in your points, and put your heart on every post.

Aww shucks... you're making me blush! Thanks!

Shame on me because i live in a poor country in Latin america with endless needs, and its kind of refreshing to see people from almighty America sharing the same concerns, and i find quite interesting that human suffering is the same no matters how powerful is the country in which u´re living.

No "shame" in that, at all. The "suffering" may be the same - discomfort is, after all, discomfort - but the causes differ from place to place. There is no "one size fits all" solution for every where, and every when.

I personally think that a large part of the current problems could be adequately addressed in the US by placing crippling restrictions on "multinational" corporations for doing business here, and favoring domestic industry. That would, of course, drive them "out there" into the rest of the world, but the rest of you would have to find your own solutions for that. Perhaps they would be based upon the US model, perhaps not, but whatever they are, they should suit your own locality and your own population.

Oddly, perhaps, it's likely that putting crippling restrictions on multinationals here could force them to behave more nicely, since it would restrict their markets somewhat. If enough of those restrictions were emplaced in enough places, they would HAVE to behave, or face starvation. That, in turn, requires working on the politicians with the power to make such restrictions, rather than standing and screaming at the Ivory Towers on Wall Street.

The Wall Street problems could be addressed by taking the power to regulate the money supply out of their hands, and giving it back to the governmental treasury, where the US Constitution SAYS it's supposed to reside. That would make the economy more responsive to the will of the people, since, if the government failed to listen when they spoke, those governmental types could be directly out of a job. "Speculation" and trading in "futures" should be banned outright. They are nothing more than market manipulation, and the effects trickle down to us ALL. It's impossible to directly put the bankers out of a job given the current setup, and so screaming at them does nothing at all.

Those two things could go a long way towards fixing this mess in the US, and BOTH hinge on influencing government, and starving Wall Street - not screaming at them.

Cheers

Hating Wall Street is one thing, but hating anyone who makes a good wage is totally different mindset. They seem to be pushing some kind of class system with anyone who make a good wage is evil and should be punished in some way. Here in Portland the vast majority look like they have done little with their, mostly young, lives to gain skills and education to get a head on their own, so they think that the Government should help them since they have done do little to help themselves.

I guess it is a new movement of too lazy to do the hard work yourself so bitch about those who do and demand the Government take from the hard workers and give to those who have chosen a life of mediocrity.

The breakdown of how members and non-members perceive the Occupy Wall Street protests is very interesting. I think folks on this site have much more information and seem to be much more open minded about the pros and cons of the movement. Keep up the good work.

I'm tired of the word money all the way around. I'm tired of it all. Yuppies up in wall street walking around throwing our country away along with our governement while the money we do spend, most of it goes towards bullshiat and killing and oil and everything else that does NOTHING for Americans NOTHING.

I just don't care anymore, I'm just going to sit up in the country, get of the GD grid and watch the world kill itself. If Paul doesn't win the election , this country is done, even with him winnning, it's still in trouble.

Just stay non violent folks, thats the key. NO VIOLENCE!

I'm surprised that you don't think so. Words we have used for many years and words continue to be ignored.

While I agree that violence is a very bad idea, and that the citizens of this country, no matter how well armed, cannot fight back against the globalist war machine, it will take the blood of many patriots in the dirt to water the tree of liberty again.

They will not take us seriously until they take our lives and see that it only makes us stronger, angrier and more hellbent on changing the direction of this country.

It's really interesting to see that most of the membership is in solidarity in their viewpoints and perspectives. It seems that would make sense that this forum is still around and thriving in that it is a community of like-minded individuals.

It is very easy to see who the informed and uninformed groups are. That, and how many people do you bet 'think' their sources aren't mainstream because they don't know better?
