Police to Seattle protest supporters: Honk if you'd like a ticket

www.seattlepi.com...

Starting at 11 p.m. Friday, police started pulling over and ticketing drivers who honked as they drove past protesters.
When the first car -- a taxi -- was pulled over, the protesters followed and shouted at police who then formed a blockade around the driver's cab.
The cab driver was then given a $144 ticket -- and protesters ended up handing him money afterwards to help pay for his fine.
"I'm really sorry this happened to you tonight, man," one protester said to the cab driver.
The protesters also encouraged the driver to go to court and challenge the ticket.
The driver, Ayad Agila

That is right.

If you are in Seattle and drive by the protesters
and honk your horn, YOUR GETTING A $144.00 ticket!!

What is next from these DRACONIAN pigs!
Get hit with a knight stick for waving at the crowd?
It is really great to hear about the protesters and how
they formed a blockade around the TAXI, gave him money to help pay for the ticket, and encouraged him to fight it in court!

This is getting to a breaking point..

I think it is crazy to start handing out tickets for honking in support of the occupy protesters..

Would they give tickets to people if they were honking for upping police pay wages? NAAAAH

How absurd is that??

$144 little steep, don't you think? Yuh, that's worse than a seat belt ticket.

As long as it stays peaceful, I don't see the problem and punishing those that drive by and honk is just wrong.

Try this for link fix
Oh, it's probably a strategy to help the city budget while squelching free speech after 10:00 p.m.

Do we need anymore proof that we live under the thumb of a tyrannical regime?
I ask you, who does this?
How drunk on your own sense of power and control are you to give someone a ticket for honking their horn in support of a group of people's ideas?

We are clearly being pushed.
YES WE!!
Not "THEM" Not "THEY"
"WE"................... "US".
WE are being pushed.
It is so obvious that they are losing their precious control that it is almost funny if it weren't so sad.

What country are we living in again????
If you would have read this story about N.Korea you wouldn't bat an eye.
Par for the course.
But this isn't a story coming out of N. Korea.
This is AMERIKA!
This # is happening in YOUR Country!!!!

Ugh! My city!

The story doesn't even say what the tickets are for.

Is honking your horn at night illegal?
Here is my own answer after a little research:
Seattle has a "noise control" ordinance designed to protect businesses and communities from excessive noise caused by construction activities. "Quiet hours" start at 10pm. So that must be the law they are using.

I wonder who is leaning on the police to lean on these demonstrations.

I went by there this afternoon, and the Carpenters' Union had set up a stage and they were having speeches. That area is not a very large area. It was pretty crowded but nothing unruly going on at all. And not really that many people involved, so I don't see what the big problem is.

The horn honking only comes into play if the act is of aggression, or road rage, and it would have to be used excessibly.

For this to fly is...... well it might as well be China as a previous posted said.

China isn't even that bad.. And police in china much easier to deal with than those in western countries.. Hate to burst your bubble people in china have more freedom than you do there in amerika...

They should hold a mass drive by and every vehicle honk .. Then continue honking as the police try to ticket them all. If was me there they could add littering and contempt as would tear the ticket to shreds and tell them to go to hell.

Its great isnt it eh the real fascism is slowly coming out in full force now, first the The New York Police are using Motor Bikes against the protesters and now with this in Seattle fiening you with a ticket for just Honking and showing support to the protesters.

Someone is going to get killed I think, that will be a severe catalyst and fuel for the fire.

If you've been watching the videos coming out of the middle east which i'm sure you have you'd notice that the same tactics have been employed in Egypt, Bahrain and Syria when the uprising was in it's infancy. They will steadily up the ante to provoke a response to crush any opposition. Dirty war tactics on home soil none the less. Like you said, it shows the fascism is alive and well, not ready to go without a fight. I think people need to start realizing the severity of the situation and the possibility they might have to fight for their rights. The laws are set against us for now.

If I lived in Seattle me and about 10 cars would go by and
do exactly that.

That's probably what they want
though a *cheap* excuse for revenue increase.

have a hunch it would be alot more than just 10... Suspect that if alot of us could we would be there.. Tempting to fly over and rent a car to do it but think would be locked up first for speaking out against the state when my flight landed .. As am probably on several of their silly little lists lmao ..

The winds of change are blowing and these are interesting times.. People starting to stand up and speak out.

They should pay the fine in 1 sen coins .. Let the thugs get hernias lugging change to the bank..

As long as it stays peaceful, the corrupt TPTB don't see a problem either!

"Sorry, I was reaching for my cellphone to turn it off because it was ringing and distracting me from driving safely, and I bumped the horn, Officer/your Honor, yes, my horn sounded briefly but it was an accident."

Seriously. What are they going to do if EVERYBODY honks? Bring in the entire force? This could end up costing them a lot more money than it makes them.

I meant, there is no reason for the cops to be passing out any tickets if the protesting is peaceful.
