They still wouldn't get an updated picture of me!

Look. My driver's license is about 10 years old and looks nothing like me. I had my hair cut in a pixie style then, but it's past my shoulders now.
Nobody needs a picture of me unless they know me personally.
Facial recognition technology should only include mug shots. Period.
Upload whatever you want to Facebook. I'm happy being in the shadows with only my friends and loved ones knowing what I look like today and tomorrow and the next day.

I'm not in high school anymore. I come to ATS to talk, not gawk.

Is everyone that hard up to know what the person they're talking to looks like?
I guess I'd get more stars and flags if people knew that an attractive woman was behind the words being read.

She's one of the red heads I was referring to.

If you don't want to do it, don't. That's your right. I totally understand what you're saying. Personally, I enjoy knowing the face behind the avatar. I respect everyone on here, whether I know what they look like or not. But it's just human nature to be curious. It's more about"attraction in general", not "OMG I have a crush on so and so".....meaning, when you come to ATS, and you see certain names, and you are instantly curious to see what that person posted on a subject. Someone whose opinion you respect.....or someone who always always comes up with original thoughts. It's also important to take a break and lighten the mood sometimes.....it allows us to see each other as "normal people"....what I mean is, there were a couple of people on ATS who I thought were real jerks.....they were always kind of arrogant in their posts....but one day I saw these 2 people on a thread like this, joking and "playing".....and I realized I had them ALL WRONG......they were NOT being jerks, they were just passionate about their feelings. So, anyway, I think threads like this are important for those of us who come here every day. It reminds us that these are not just avatars we are responding to.....they are real people. I think it makes us think more about how we respond to one another (eg. rudeness)

I like that one too. I've always wanted to do one of those wild west photos, where did you get it taken?

Islands of Adventure (theme park) in Orlando. They don't have the shop there anymore though. They were really good though, lots of costumes, excellent sets and props..., we had some medieval ones taken there too, that my wife and I used for our wedding announcements (as we had a medieval themed wedding at a castle not too far away).

(If you ever catch older episodes of TLC's "A Wedding Story", you may catch it, as our wedding was on an episode).

Dude, lighten up.

You want to debate it, don't read this thread and start another of your own based on the fallacies of finding people physically attractive.

So, if these two guys were ugly and drooling with teeth missing, you'd still have come to the same conclusion?

I just believe that ATS should be about words and ideas only. This is exactly why I don't even have an avatar. Am I less "cool" because I don't have a fancy pic beside my words? How many people here just scroll through a thread looking for the avatar they recognize and read what that person has to say?

I'm just saying that I'm noticing a lot of visual bias on ATS lately. For example, I recently commented on a certain thread. I stated one particular idea. Then, a person with an avatar posted the exact same idea as mine about four or five posts later, but they got three times the stars and a bunch of responses telling him/her what a great idea that was.
Huh?
So, I'm left to assume that the one star I got was from an individual who considered all ideas regardless of the fact that I wasn't drawing attention to my post with a colorful or attractive avatar. The person who took the time to read and reward my idea with no other recognition other than a star is the person I have more respect for. I just wish I knew who they were.
This isn't the first I've seen this happen either. I've seen other posts from non-avatar members who don't seem to get the credit they deserve because the wallpaper around their "name" is black.
Is this the ATS people want? Words and ideas getting passed up for pretty pictures and handsome faces?
Should I break down and post an avatar and a picture so my ideas and comments are recognized more often?
No. I'm not going to do this. If my words and ideas are ignored because they aren't wrapped in a pretty package, so be it.

Oh, and one more thing. To those who aren't in agreement with me at this point and/or don't like what I'm pointing out, you're probably picturing me as less than attractive. Right?
That's OK. It's all good. I'd rather you picture me as less than attractive than give me attention I don't deserve because you think I look good.

Cheers, everyone!

I really don't care what you look like.

If I had to imagine anything, all I see is a wet blanket.

Guess what, attractive people get judged too. You would be surprised.

But your posts are informative and thoughtful and thought out, I urge you to please take your soggy self and start a thread and at least get some credit for it.

I think she is getting credit here...and I for one appreciate her thoughts on this thread.

She has as much right to an opinion as you do.. or anybody else for that matter.

Well said.

If one were skating by on their looks that would be one thing but ATS isn't the kind of environment where vapid ninnies are exactly a hit. Some of the smartest and most clever women and men and women I have encountered have been right here on this site. I found that photo thread months after I joined and even after seeing the pictures I am no more or less inclined to pay attention to someone who is making a good point. There are several posters I like who have no avatar at all or something basic. They look like what they look like. Whether that is good or bad is a matter of personal preference. I was pleased when I saw that some of my favorite posters in here were also beautiful women not because I value one person's looks over another but because it actually shows there are "pretty" people who can and do have depth. Just as those who some might deem aesthetically challenged can be amazing conversationalists and people you really want to get to know.

Yes, there are some very clever and intelligent people on this site...but there are some vapid ninnies who seem to be a hit.. (you know the ones who get bucket fulls of stars for some stupid supposedly funny remark)

There are also many who are way too impressed with themselves..for a variety of reasons.

The smartest people I've encountered in life , who are after real truth, and are in the know about what is going on within conspiracies, wouldn't dream of coming on to this site.

Which includes me.

Glad your campaigning for the rights of wet blankets on bts, but I am simply encouraging them to start a thread on the subject, where they can use their abilities in a better format then a thread that is meant to be light hearted.

I don't see her/him as a wet blanket, more like a breath of fresh air, that has chosen to point out how ego based and ego driven we humans tend to be.

Many of you say how you love phage for the "balance" he brings to threads...

Well I respect and admire afterthought for the balance he/she brought to this thread.

You missed the point entirely. I did not say I saw their "photo".....I should have clarified I guess. I meant I had seen their POSTS and thought they were jerks....then saw their posts on more lighthearted threads and realized I was wrong.. I don't care about looks. Whether or not you post a photo means nothing to me. It's not important and not a factor in what I think of someone. I like seeing what some of the people I chat with look like just because it's nice to see what they look like since I interact with them a lot.....NOT because it is something which affects my opinion of them. Just curiosity... If you choose not to post an avatar or a photo, great, because I am not sitting here trying to form an opinion of you based on that. That's pretty shallow I think. I really don't care one way or another. In a way, you are making assumptions of me by thinking that I would choose who I admire based on that. OK...well. I won't go on about it, because honestly, the subject should be in a separate thread. This one is just for fun. So I'll leave it at that. I just wanted to clarify that I was not referring to photos in my last post. If you want to start a thread on this, I'd be happy to discuss furthur. But I pick my friends based on who they are, not what they look like.
