I'm confused. I don't really think we are in a police state. I've never been sent to a detention camp, I've never dealt with a cop unless I've been going 20 MPH over the speed limit - at that point I deserve it because I'm putting other people in danger, I've been caught with drugs and not punished at all, and who knows what else. I feel like people get fear-mongered into believing things are really bad. They connect together imaginary puzzle pieces and see a hypothetical 'big picture.' I do have to say, the DMV and having a driving license is inexcusable. I buy myself a car - so I should damn well drive it whenever I want!! In India barely anybody even has insurance. Ah well.

We don't live in a police state. I been pulled over twice, never got a ticket. Never even had any trouble with the police. Even though I disagree with police actions when it comes to handling protesters, they really aren't that bad, especially as bad as ATS paints them. Everyone hates cops until they need one.

How would you know if the U.S had been taking over by a Military Coup?

It could easily keep the same systems in place, only the elected President wouldn't have any say on Military occupations continuing, Military Detention Camps remaining (Gitmo) and the rhetoric remaining hostile (i.e Iran and Syria), despite the fact that when running for election the opposite was being promised.

It makes you wonder, doesn't it?

I'm not trying to argue or anything I just really want to try and understand this whole thing. I have had a feeling over the years that it's becoming harder and harder to do much of anything without some type of government intervention. It isn't over-bearing or anything because I still feel free (mostly) but it has gotten progressively more and more irritating. The sad part is I have a government position but it is only in Public Housing, nothing sinister there haha. So wait, you're saying the military would continue having elections, etc. When the elected president arrives they show up in the office only to see a military official go "we actually run everything, u mad?" Even to those who are continually ingrained into mainstream media must know that SOMETHING was fishy with the invasion of Iraq.

That's not even remotely true and to be honest, it is offensive, moronic garbage. I can tell you clearly don't have a clue what you're talking about

The U.K has more CCTV cameras per square mile than any other country. To deny this is embracing ignorance.

You know it, I know it, the whole of the U.K knows it.

Without wanting to take this thread off course, 95% of those camera's are in shops, garages and other private premises. They are privately owned, not monitored and are certainly no way indicative of a "police state". You will actually find, if you did the leg-work and didn't just believe the hype, that cities such as Chicago and New York have equally as dense amounts of CCTV. In fact, New York and Chicago have much more "State" owned, operated and monitored CCTV than any city in the UK, including London.

You also have to bear in mind that the UK is one of the most densley populated places on earth and as a result, will have more "anything" per square mile.

I don't think that at all, but I am a realist and not a paranoid nutter who reguitates garbage as fact. If someone is talking out of their arse, I will call them out on it. That guy was talking out of his arse and you're supporting his drivel.

FYI, I have actually read the report that is the basis of the "caught 300 times a day on CCTV" and "The U.K has more CCTV cameras per square mile than any other country" tidbits often quoted by people such as yourselves who obviously have not looked at the facts and merely parrot the headlines. If you do read it, it isn't anywhere near as frightening as the Daily Mail would have you believe.

ROTFLMAO!!

Good luck trying to enforce that BS "illegal" law..

Unless your tapping all forms of comm's, inside every room the "purps" (that would be any US citizen in another land), and doing "live streaming" of them using the latest SAT's.. it is a false law, I would look in the ""by-lines" to see what the "real deal" is in the law, sure as hell is not the one written on the front page...

A police state is perfectly fine UNTIL you challenge the status quo.

Try protesting the WRONG things. Note the lack of due process. Notice how people are treated as suspects.

Fingerprinting school kids and checking for weapons in Florida.
A man executed in Georgia when evidence was found that he was innocent and the ONLY evidence against him was eyewitnesses -- and 7 of 9 recanted their testimony.
Detaining various people without charges.
Bradley Manning arguably tortured and confined without due process.
Spying on Americans without a court order -- rampant invasions of privacy.
Laws not being applied to a select class of people.
Lack of justice for a select class of people.
Two-tiered systems -- you will notice now if you give up ALL your rights at the airport, you can go through a no hassle check system. But people on Lear jets never have to get scanned in the first place.
There are now "fast lanes" if you pay a fee -- so instead of solving traffic problems, you create a privileged lane.

We can find numerous examples if you look for them. It's not that extreme yet, because the situation isn't quite yet desperate enough for the unemployed -- that's going to change soon. And as the deprivations start MOVING UP the food chain and people start showing their outrage -- well, THEN the Police State will become a lot more obvious.

The Patriot Act was designed to deal with an unruly populace -- it has little to do with Terrorists. Terrorists are the "Frenemies" of a Police state, necessary to justify an authoritarian system.

This really upsets me on so many levels. I realize this is not only confined to substances , but perhaps the laws should be a bit more specific ..persay , one wants to travel to Asia where they can sleep with an 8 year old boy ...I really wouldn't freakin complain. But the ambiguity and the room for abuse is absolutely disgusting. What if I really want to travel and go to indigenous tribes to experience different psychedelic uses in their rituals ..or hell, maybe I wanna go to a road in Germany where they have no speed limit , and I can have a near death experience lol.
My ability to look at this subjectively has been lost on the congressman's recent past and his arrogance. This is so much more than what it appears. And to the person who says they " don't get it " , it's about a systematic approach , the frog in boiling water . Step by step , they ensnare you ....then ..game over.

I don't think the POINT is to enforce it -- the point is to put something like this on the books to create a legal Precedent. Once you establish punishment for a THOUGHT CRIME -- you prohibit certain kinds of speech. A fictional book about drugs could be considered PLANNING the crime. Debating drug control policies COULD be illegal under a policy like this.

They wouldn't enforce this until they USED IT to pass other laws that would be thrown out on their own -- either that, or this Republican pushing this is merely a useful idiot and is just clueless that his job isn't about creating laws for problems that don't exist.

>> On another thread today -- there is a discussion about Homeland Security arresting people for "Pre Crime" -- as if they were even competent at following up Post Crimes.

The point is, to make EVERYONE a lawbreaker and then selectively enforce crimes against anyone challenging the status quo -- it's like not having anything against your enemy, and then you do an illegal search and find "Kiddie Porn" on his laptop -- because of course you put it there. If illegal searches are allowed -- it makes planting evidence very easy. Anyone saying different, can have their blog about "let's do some marijuana in Denmark" used against them in court.

A police state isn't just about machine gun packing goons on every street corner -- it's about making laws where the vast majority are guilty and you can arbitrarily arrest anyone.

Ok, well it's now winding down to the finish.

For years folks on ATS and other sites have been endorsing the violent method of Revolution, vs. everyone else endorsed politics, and leverage.

The reality of it has now shown that no mater who is voted into office, the agenda this government has been involved with is not going away, is not declining - or even reversing - in it's forward latitude.

ATS member Airspoon (amongst others), whom I whole heartedly support, in his diligence has endorsed rapid deployment against this regime that has taken control of the American Government, to no avail... ADVISOR has discussed options that reveal that he too, see no other recourse. I've been a loud endorser of Physical Take Over of this government's critical infrastruction, out of the hands of a powerful entity that has literally commandeered America's Government away from its people (without a single shot being fired) so as to use America's Wealth and Power to take control of the world BY FORCE!

One such dream would have been for the enforcement of a NESARA like recoup of this country... the passage of this Bill however seems to provide proof that the only recourse America has presently is physical take over.

There is an outspoken majority here in America that has all voiced this concern. The 'problem' here isn't cowardice or fear... it's disbelief. It's the cold hard fact that American's don't wan't to go to war with themselves.

This is too bad. I pray that those who join the approaching struggle will learn who it is their friends, allies, and fellows really are, and it remains against those of reproach that have proven to be against this country's standards, and not amongst it's citizens.

God Help America!

For their own safety, I forewarn those Mexicans that have been armed by the U.S. Government for this very event to stay on your side of the border. America doesn't need or want your help. It's the U.S. Government that needs your help, because it's afraid that it will lose this upcoming battle... and only wants to use you, no matter how many of you will lay your lives down for a cause that has nothing to do with you...

I forewarn the troops that are involved with United Nations agendas. It's the U.S. Government that needs your help, because it has grossly violated its Constitutional Oath, and wishes to continue in its criminal activity against its people, and the rest of the world.

America has a Constitutional Duty that it now must look at fulfilling, and that is the physical resurrection of its State's militia in response to a government that has acted in accordance with actions outside of America's constitutionality, which at this point must now be held accountable for.

IF the people of this world wish to see an America that is resurrected from the ashes this conflict will stir to become the America the world once knew long ago...

HELP Americans reestablish this with the reorganization of its government back to the Constitutional Standards it once was governed by... America, in turn, will bless you with the freedoms you once enjoyed... before America became the U.S. Government.

To the rest of the world, that wish to see America destroyed... Don't Tread On Me.... for your own good.

I dont understand why they are doing this.
Still on the fence, are they stupid or is this planned, or is this just a normal course of decay for a republic ?

Its planned.there putting pressure on california about pot and at the same time they have people that follow ron paul with the constitution join the wall street occpuation gathering support to obama by stepping in and legalizing pot before the election .That would get all the support he needs to chunk the constitution in the trash for real.

Long live the imperial Federation! Support the imperial troopers! Long live Darth... I mean Obama. I was told just a few days ago he is "against the drug war". Good, then within a days time he'll announce that he will veto the bill if it passes. But no, Obama is a bold faced liar who loves the drug war.

Sounds like a law that can't be enforce. First you need to be caught and if its legal there then odds of that are slim. what are they going to do make everyone piss in a cup, hair samples? it would be a illegal search. Makes me think there is a deeper issue like a niece or nephhew grandchild something went over seas and O.D and this would be there making it right but that is a shot in the dark or guess.

leave it to Huffington Post to not provide the name of the law or the source....

I'm not finding ANYTHING about this in Congressional or Court docs from yesterday.

I'm a little surprised no one in 4 full pages bothered to look but I think maybe we just got played by the Huffington dramaticists (
