As most of you know, this past month (September) was full of predictions of doom and gloom. The bringer of our doom ranged from Elenin to Nibiru, Earthquakes to Asteroids, Alien Invasion to the N.W.O., and Our Own Government, Solar Flares to Jesus Christ himself, and if you prefer, you could even mix and match. I even got up at 3am one morning and to my own disbelief, packed a B.O.B. (Bug out Bag)…….it’s still in the corner…. This got me to thinking.
This is my first thread here on ATS. I hope I put it in right forum. But what I would like from you guys and gals is your view on this…
Why do so many of us feel or think some kind of apocalyptic / life altering event is near? To put it simpler (for thread title sake) …..Why all the Doom and Gloom? Why do some want it so bad?
For me the answer is simple...I want to live in a post-apocalyptic world like in the Mad Max movies…But that’s just me. (Or is it?)
Mostly I love a good story and I’m just board.
But, like I said this is my first thread here on ATS and I want to hear your viewpoint….So with that said have fun...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: It's a result of the global situation as a whole. The global economy sucks right now, casting a huge shadow of doubt over everything. You could lose your job tomorrow, your house the next day, your savings the next.

People have been predicting the "end" for thousands of years. The people at the core of it are always either paranoid, gullible, or profiting from it in some way.

People want something "big" to happen to change things up. They don't like the way things are going and would apparently rather have a huge "reset" of civilization than logically try to find a way out of it.

Though I don't see it as doom

I think we all feel something unknown is on the horizon...

people seem to fear what they don't know and see in front of them....

I think and I say this is MY OPINION...

which is still unknown to me and Well everyone else .... will be a good thing and benefit all of us for the greater.... but we see it as " doom" but we are excited for it at the same time...

hope this makes some sense....

that's my 2 cents

I'm waiting.

When's the next date?

Hmm, I believe it's supposed to be in a couple of days, then onto Nov.'s doom and gloom.

Well, according to Harold Camping, the May judgment still happened and the rapture is still set to start later this month...

October 21 is your date

For over ten years I have been utterly convinced that humanity has taken such an incredibly wrong and unalterable path that logic can no longer prevail. There are simply way too many rats in the cage for rational behavior to prevail.

We as a society have encouraged all of the wrong principals and rewarded all of the Wrong People with the wrong things. The People with the real money own the game. This will not change until the game changes, significantly.

At my age I would prefer to see the SHTF in a big way and know that change will truly rise. Hopefully with the mistakes of the past fresh in memory.

Although I am convinced that at our stage of evolution we are simply to backwards and selfish to rebuild anything other than the same mess. We have given the sociopaths complete control. They crave power over nearly any other possible reward. Is it a flaw of our species or is it a flaw of being raised in an environment that rewards greed and power?

In part I find it easier to deal with my own mortality by hoping for the worst possible outcome for humanity, total extinction. I know that sounds selfish but I simply want to know that when I die everyone is going with me. I do not want to miss out on anti-gravity shoes, flying cars and world peace............

A bunch of people who hate their lives.

Or a bunch of fundamentalists who expect the end to come by their savior's hand.

Or a bunch of A-type survivalists looking for a bitchin' challenge.

Either way, I can't help but laugh at the practically-universal expectation that each one of these folks is going to somehow survive whatever cataclysm it is that they're so intensely hoping for.

Best of luck homies!

Bad news sells.

Did you ever wonder if they were just binkies for people who were tired of YOU living? (lol) Sorry had to reply as I have a freaking great life and a fair bit to lose in an Apocalypse.

Although I have to admit to not believing a single one of the doom and gloom theories I have seen on ATS. Heck I still have tens of thousands in the bank, Then again, I did not buy an extra bottle of water for Y2K either......

In the end, there are two approaches: acceptance or denial.

Things are the way that things are. You don't have to agree with them to accept them. I don't think the people that have taken leadership roles on this planet have made the right decisions in progressing us all as a human race, but I accept that "it is what it is".

You mentioned that you've been feeling the way you do for over 10 years now and hope for the worst... to me, that's naivety. Barring a world war, nothing will significantly change anytime soon.

You can waste a lifetime waiting for whatever is coming or you can make the most of the time you have.

Of course they're something unknown on the horizon.

It's called the future.

It's never been known, whether times were good, bad, so so or otherwise.

Just thought I'd point that out since I do find it ironic.

In response to the OP, why are so many people on ATS obsessed with doom and gloom? Because this is a doom and gloom website. Turn off the computer, ditch ATS, and you will be *much* happier.

I know there's a trend to call non ATSers "sheeple," but that's just silly. There's far more intelligent, knowledgable, rational and realistic people out there than there are here -- it's just that they're emotionally stable, while here... not so much.

I'm still fairly new here myself, but it didn't take long to figure this one out.

Stick around for a few more months, and you will easily see that EVERY MONTH is like that. September was nothing special.

Why do so many of us feel or think some kind of apocalyptic / life altering event is near? To put it simpler (for thread title sake) …..Why all the Doom and Gloom? Why do some want it so bad?

[color=9EFFD8]Many people have a craving, a yearning deep down inside, to hopefully someday be able to say,
"I told ya so!!"

No matter how many times they are wrong, they think that all of those wrongs will be overshadowed by that one, that may come true. It's rather childish, but it is what it is.

I don't believe any of the doom and gloom merchants personally and I'm sure in 2013 we'll still have all the end of the world posts on ATS. If however there was a disaster affecting the planet what would change?

As civilisation slowly rebuilt itself we'd recreate all that we hate now. We're pack animals, we'd form tribes, tribes would have leaders and wars with other tribes, there'd be disease, famine, corruption, alliances between some tribes against others, those alliances would form nations, the nations would have leaders and wars with other nations. By this time technology may have advanced enough for us to jump straight to corruption... Plus ca change...

All the Doom and Gloom posters are (ex)members of GLP? There it is a contest who can spam the most Doom and Gloom in CAPS. I'm glad most of the time this board takes topic 'serious' as in not trolling after the 3rd reply! So i think those ex GLP'ers need to adjust to there new enviorment
They know not better then to spread predictions, and Doom scenario's.
