Palestine won a first diplomatic victory in its quest for statehood on Wednesday when the UNESCO executive committee backed its bid to become a member of the cultural body with the rights of a state.
Palestine's Arab allies braved intense US and French diplomatic pressure to bring the motion before the committee's member states, which passed it by 40 votes in favour to four against, with 14 abstentions.

What fear? I do not believe that this terrorist controlled state desires to live in peace. When they achieve statehood, they should be held completely accountable for their actions. As soon as the first rocket flies, Israel should be allowed to declare war and stomp them all the way back to the Paleozoic era.

ETA: I would LOVE to see that

Likewise for Palestine. When they achieve statehood, Israel should be held completely accountable for all their human rights violations that at least contributed to Palestinian actions through the years. As soon as the first rocket flies, the new state of Palestine should be able to do the same. I believe that is the true reason the Israel opposes statehood, because they know they will be held accountable for their actions in a different way.

I say Yay Palestine, good luck and Allah speed.

UNSC may vote on PA statehood bid in early November.

UNITED NATIONS - The Palestinian quest for UN membership is likely to come to a head on or around Nov. 11, when Security Council ambassadors plan a final meeting to decide their response, diplomats said on Wednesday.

The date represents a delay in dealing with the Palestinian application, submitted by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Sept. 23, amid hopes that indirect Israeli-Palestinian talks scheduled for next week could get a peace process off the ground.

US Threatens UNESCO over Palestine

The United States has threatened to cut off its funds to UNESCO, if the UN organization recognizes Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.

US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland gave the warning on Wednesday, adding that there would be serious repercussions for the UN body, AFP reported.

“We've made the point that there are very clear red lines in US legislation,” Nuland said.

Well it appears that the peace process between Israel and Palestinian people will never happen. With the recent caches of weapons tracked from Libya to Sanai,as reported from HRW,things can only go down hill from here.

NEW YORK — UNESCO voted Monday to admit Palestine into the organization as its newest member, and the United States promptly responded by cutting off funding for the agency.

Acting under a legal requirement to cut U.S. funds to any U.N. agency that recognizes a Palestinian state, the State Department on Monday announced that the United States has stopped funding the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization because of the vote. Department spokesman Victoria Nuland told reporters that the Obama administration would not make a planned $60 million payment to the agency due this month.
