The religious fundies (whether Christian, Muslim, Jewish, etc. are always going to push their agenda)....

The way I see it, if Jesus was really the son of God, and really did talk to his dad, then what he did was no real big sacrifice. I mean, unlike us, who have to have faith there's a Heaven..he KNEW.

So, it isn't like he took a big gamble...
It's like questioning whether or not to buy a lottery ticket when you know what the winning numbers will be. Gee, I don't know, should I?

Duh....

In so many threads we are being told that we are sinners, being told to repent, being told to invite JESUS (often with block capitals) into our lives.

Well I'm sick of it! If I wanted to be preached at I'd go to church!

Don't Click On the Threads

Your mouse is like a remote control for a TV. It's up to you which threads you click on and what you read. Same with posts you can skip over the ones you don't like. You either believe in Free Speech or you don't. You can't have it both ways.

I'm a Christian and I agree with you. These people are wrong to do that. They do have the same right to express themselves as you do though.

Christians are under attack from people who DO NOT believe in Free Speech or Freedom of Religion and I think many are just trying to fight back. Just like any huge group you will find radicals and nuts. Unless its a hate thing you should as an adult (?) be able to not click on threads you don't like.

I absolutely agree with you until your last sentence. That is entirely my point - I don't click on threads I don't like or have no interest in. It's the threads that are invaded by people pushing an agenda that's irrelevent to the thread that they're posting in that gets my goat.

This complaint goes both ways. I've seen numerous threads in the religious section where someone asks a legitimate question about Christianity, only to receive the reply, "well, it's all a bunch of crap anyway, who cares what the Bible says? It was written by a bunch of men with an agenda to push...".

That's an equally unhelpful and equally non-topical position, yet nobody ever seems to complain about that (and in honesty I'm not complaining about it either, but it serves to prove my point).

This is all part and parcel of free speech. You don't have to agree with it. You don't have to like it. You don't have to pay attention to it. But the minute you start censoring it, you're ascribing validity to one position in preference over another, and that's a dangerous thing to do on a forum that is designed to facilitate those who seek to deny ignorance and seek truth.

Regarding the recent comments about "denying ignorance" and the Bible... you wouldn't even be afforded that opportunity if there were no Christians here. Like it or not, we're a part of the demographic, and a part of this board. But with that said, if you want to bring Occam's Razor to a thread I post regarding something Biblical, by all means, please do so. Provided you show the same desire for logic, and more importantly, the willingness to be corrected when wrong, I wouldn't just tolerate you in such a thread, I'd LIKE to have you in such a thread. Discussion, however rhetorically violent at times, is what makes ATS such a great place to be. I love the fact that I've posted threads where people write back "I totally disagree with you, here's what I think", and do so with logic and conviction. It's what I came here for in the first place.

...and with that said, if my beliefs can't stand up to common sense, or, better yet, to their own standard (set by the Bible), then I should be the first to hear about it... and I'd welcome you. And provided Christians do so in a fair, rational, open manner (and let's be honest, most of the complaints so far in this thread are about those who DON'T write like that), we should be welcomed too.

And for those who can't post like that?
Perhaps you should think about whether or not you're talking in the spirit of Jesus Christ, or hindering Him.

I'd have to agree with this.
I actually didn't equate the 'preaching' thing to organised religion, but to the priests of science. I have no lean either way and see them as complementary...but, it seems there is more vitriol and veiled abuse directed towards the religion camp.
I'm yet to personally see a big bang or a black hole, and i suspect nobody else has either. Seems like belief comes in many forms

...and as annoying as the 'preaching' is, there is always, the door, which is that way >
