Some big, some not so big, but it is a regular phenomenon, and well documented by the satellite's scientific staff.
To post events for peer benefit is different than owning a phenomena. That is why there is a search function.

OK people really? Our sun is a massive spacial body (compared to the earth). It, like the earth, is impacted by multitudes of objects ranging from
dust particles to meteors and very occasionally comets. Do you really think aliens have become depressed at the state of their existance and are
suiciding into our host star?Or do you think our sun is maybe under attack by a malevolent group of extra terrestrials harvesting space rocks and the
like, and hurling them in to our Sun? Get a clue. Do just a little bit of thinking. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME,EVERYWHERE IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE.

Soho posts this stuff pseudo-realtime as a public service for those that find it scientifically interesting.
The public, or webcast version of the stream is derived from a much higher density data stream that is the core of the output from the satellite.
They are not chartered to do this realtime public streaming, by contract, but do it because they certainly have the interest and obviously it is a really cool thing to offer a webcam on the sun.
Major astrological sites that scientifically analyze this data, get the core dedicated feeds, probably frame relay, along with a stream of text data not delivered to the website.
I would say, that this object was so interesting to them that they later detached the core data stream for further analysis.
It is quite possible that they never thought to put it back into the archive that produces the web imaging, because , after all, it had already been published and the focus of the websiite is to stream and archive new data.
I will bet you, that if you sent a letter to them and requested that last 6 hours, you would get a good answer, and perhaps they would even give you the video. There are so many astronomical sites in the world that probably archive off that feed, that it is available many other places as well.
Just an IMHO, and not thinking that SOHO is in any conspiracy plot to deny scientific research on it's mission, which is payed for by US tax dollars.

There are clear facts here: A large object hit the sun causing a major CME. This is the first time I've seen a phenomenon like this but I'm sure there are ATSers who have seen this and their INTELLIGENT feedback is important.
