I Dont Get Why People Make an Issue About Stars and Flags

i dont get it no matter what forum i go to there it is blah blah blah people just make a thread to invoke a emotional response to get flags and stars.

what is up with those people? why? jealousy? for the life of me i just am not seeing the issue.

people star and flag i have always thought that the topic was worthy of discussion and what is contained there is worthy of a stars and flags.

people dont always agree some people like others not so much anyways.

wouldnt one call those people trolls? never post on topic just posts a bunch of mindless drivel to take a potshot at the op and fellow ats readers.

who knows i sure dont so what say you ats?

I believe its the Competitive drive. The "I have more S&F's than you" thing. Personally myself i could care less. I have 0 Flags and few Stars.


OH NO I've got less stars than i have posts!! So depressing!!!

I star i well said comment or a well done thread, i never star a joke or bad sarcasme unless the thread is a joke thread.
I sometime miss a red star or something simply to disagree, but i guess that would be miss used.
I flag to aware people of something of important issue or event, not to reward.

Here's my thoughts on the S&F.

I think the flags play a role of giving you an idea of just how important a topic is to members. Though it's a complete generalization, and you might not always agree with the importance of a topic, be it few flags or many.

As for stars, I really think they add value to the forum. When I look at the amount of stars a member has, I look at the ratio of stars vs. posts. I commonly find members who have a 2:1 ratio on stars vs. posts usually have something valuable and/or meaningful to contribute. You'll find that trolls, biased views, and fear mongers usually have a poor ratio.

If there is any advice I could give to members of ATS, it would be to pay attention to the post/star ratio, and take the words of those with a poor ratio with a grain of salt.

BTW, I mean no offense to anyone that does not have a great ratio. It's important that everyone gets to express their thoughts and opinions, even if those thoughts and opinions aren't popular.

I think BTS topics shouldn't be flagged (the way it was before) the upgrade...
But, that's just me...

A 50/50 mix of stars and flags is called slag...

Signs that someone is addicted to slag are:
- Lack of sleep
- Worn out F5 button
- Lack of social life
- Lack of significant other
- Weight gain
- Talking about stars, flags and/or slag(s)
- Paranoia
- Using other jargon like: troll, fed, etc

Street terms of the use of slag include but are not limited to:
- Star and Flag
- S+F
- S+F
- Good find
- Slagging

If you suspect someone is addicted to stars and flags or is "slagging" consult a mod, as they to are addicted as well
