Yes, perspectives can be decieving....not just of contrails, but in all aspects of vision.
For example, how long is your typical human arm....the total length ? ....measure it.
But photograph that arm "pointing at the camera".......measure the resulting photo that that way, and you'll get get an in-accurate figure.

One of the more dramatic examples of this was the "Mystery Missile" from last year. Just a contrail at an extreme perspective, but it kind of looked
like a missile, and a lot of people were fooled.
