Dead Sea Scroll Available Online

www.huffingtonpost.com

The appearance of five of the most important Dead Sea scrolls on the Internet is part of a broader attempt by the custodians of the celebrated manuscripts ... On a computer screen was a piece of the Apocryphon of Daniel, an Aramaic text that includes a verse referring to a figure who "will be called the son of God." The first fragments of that will be online by the end of the year.

Interesting snippet I saw about the new scrolls that were released today. Interesting. At the time, I think Israel is releasing these scrolls to reinforce christian support in this time when Palestine is filing for statehood. This acts as a buffer to get more support for the Anti-statehood bid, In my opinion.

I wonder how long they've been keeping these from us. Just long enough to spring it on us when they felt they needed a jolt in the Polls. Religon is bull just because of this and this goes for ALL religons.

Good find OP

This is new and I think relates or describes what you have here in your thread exactly. Very good information.

I thought they have been available online for the most part. Isn't this where the Book of Enoch was discovered and the book of Mary and other sacred and apocryphal texts? I know I have read parts to many of the dead sea scrolls already. Enuma elish or the Gilgamesh flood story - can't remember if these were found at this time, in these particular caves but very important none the less. Here is a pretty good link too. www.bl.uk...

Here is a lecture on them

Interesting angle you bring in. Bear in mind, however that the DSS speak for the authenticity and veracity of the Hebrew Old Testament per se, no matter why they may be published online. Before they were found the oldest manuscripts in existence stemmed from the 9th century (i.e 800s) AD. Imagine the shock when a DSS manuscript of Isaiah dating from a thousand years prior to that was found, to all intents and purposes, to be identical!

(Anyone unfamiliar with the DSS discoveries might find the "Holman QuickSource Guide to the Dead Sea Scrolls" useful.)

amazing people can believe the Dead Sea text. i like domestic animals too, but this is just too fabricated and obviously so!

""Adam said, "Lord, when I was in the garden, you walked with me every day. I do not see you anymore and I am lonely. It is difficult for me to remember how much you love me."

God said, "I shall create a companion for you who will always be with you and shall reflect My Love for you. His love shall be unconditional: regardless of how selfish, childish, or unlovable you may be. He will accept and love you."

God created an animal for Adam, and it was good. And God said, "Because I have created this animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name shall be a reflection of My name. And you will call him DOG."

The dog lived with Adam. Adam was comforted. The dog was content and wagged his tail.

A cat

Then it came to pass that Adam's guardian angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam has become filled with pride; he struts and preens and come to believe that he is worthy of adoration. He has learned from the dog's devotion that he is loved, but has no humility." And the Lord said' "I shall create another companion for him who will see him as he is and remind him of his limitations, so that he knows that he is not worthy of adoration and will become humble." So God created the cat. The cat did not obey Adam, and he was reminded he was not the supreme being. He learned humility.

Adam was greatly improved. God was pleased. So was the dog. The cat did not care one way of the other.""

So they hold history hostage and release it slowly to make us happy? hehe.

I thought the Vatican decides what is/isn't public anyways.

Overreaching jerks.

S&F S&F S&F S&F S&F!@!!!**!*!***

I have been waiting for this day. But many people on ats forgot that we already have many DSS published on analog paper. I must add that another book in the DSS has claimed and mentioned the son of man. But many jewish scholars will debunk it to avoid the christianity conundrum

Can't wait till people are hanged with their tongues

*Have you read the DSS? No i'll wait until it is on the internet*

Read a book people!

The dead sea scrolls are just a reinforcement of the superiority of the Semites over the lowly heathens/philistines ect?
Personally I want to read the ancient texts of my ancestors, the Saxons, the Jutes, the Celts, the normans, not the collaborative edited text from Jewish sources.

WasGod so racist that he revealed himself to those who had as slaves the "Goyem"?

True freedom comes from daring to think God is Love.
Strong powerful, all encompassing Love.

Not a race specific tool to be harnessed to promote thyself.

If you have ever gone to see them live you understand why releasing them online is important. Most are kept in nitrogen filled viewers. The can only be exposed to very dim harmless light sources. No Photos. The duration of the light depends on how badly the individual pieces are degraded. Usually 9 to 20 seconds. Then dark period for a couple min. Then the lights can cycle again.

They tried handling them in a different manner and there was some damage. Oxidation, fading etc. Its a pretty interesting display. They have several different items from that time period including textiles and utilitarian items like clay lamps.
