Wow, what a fascinating story!

So imagine all the implications of this.

How long before the military seizes the project and claims it for its own nefarious purposes?

They'll make a law that only law enforcement and military are allowed the "superskin"!

How much will it go for on the black market?

What happens when the drug cartels get wind of this and can't be killed anymore?

But I digress....Or do I?

Nothing will stop us killing each other. Never has there been a defense that some human somewhere hasn't found a way to circumvent. Its our nature, deep down.

Of course it is, nothing could exist without somthing else in the chain, out side of microbes.

We survived by eating other life and any which way you want to look at it, we are top of the food chain monsters, eating things COMPLETLY out of our way for a treat! (caviar anyone?)

This is so cool, I wonder if a person will ever somehow turn their whole skin bulletproof using this technology. Imagine that, you're some sketchy robber trying to mug somebody, and then you shoot them point blank and your bullet just hits them and falls to the ground.

That video would have been better if there was tension on the skin patch. No matter what, people would suffer bruised or broken tissues from the force of the bullet, but, it is still pretty amazing nonetheless. And still better than no protection at all.

I could see spider-silk skin grafts being a big business for people in combat warfare....

Not sure how pretty it would make you however.

whos to say a human DID NOT contact a sipder and its freinds to construct a web in the shape of vest of armor of god?

Heck if we exploit sipders now to make fablious vests of deflection, who knows what they might have webbed up for themselfs....

How long before they start to blend human and spiders DNA for engineering a hybrid mutant?? I'm not kidding. If such research become militarized, what will prevent TPTB of engineering human gene to make subjects capable to segregate spider silk through their own glands or something like that??? Nothing good can come from it.

NOTHING good can come? Really, NOTHING. Well then sir, do allow me to point out the obvious by saying...

Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can!

1. At the end of the video, they talk about spider silk being a good scaffold for regrowing things like skin and bones. Practical application, that.

2. Notice to get the actual effects of stopping a bullet, they keep bringing up the word weave? For humans to have spider silk instead of keratin wouldn't do a thing for us, genetically, unless we thoroughly modify the way our skin grows, so this is not coming all that soon.

Very interesting. It looks like it is very far from a useable state.

Non-Newtonian liquid protection will come first.

Very interesting thread, this kind of tech' is both wonderful and scary at the same time.
If this becomes a reality, I already have the weapon to kill this super solider, a giant rolled up newspaper.

It seems to me that it's just the start of the modifications of humans. Before long you'll be able to go into WallMart slap in an ATM Card, Re-Sequence your Genes and have this skin installed with a discount coupon from McDonalds
