Women In The U.S. Military Being Raped By Commanding Officers! With NO Recourse!

This is disgusting and heart breaking. I don't even know what to say.......

Get rid of the military..... it's bankrupting the nation anyway.

That is the most foolish statement ive heard in quite a while........

There are bad apples in every bunch........you have to deal with them I agree.......

You dont stop eating food because you get a bad case of the trotts......

Get rid of the military and youll be wishing you hadnt in short order..........

as much as this would be a wonderful thing to do, china have reserves of 200 million soldiers and don't hang about when it comes to occupying (most of southern asia by now via proxy)

that's more than the entire western world could probably muster.

best to keep one or two, eh?

there is probably nothing that can be done. you can't get rid of the commanding officers or it would be anarchy

We have nukes, predator drones and all other types of tech, I really don't see the point off a standing military........ they scare me.

My daughter is in the Air Force. She complained to me frequently about the nasty behavior she had to endure from the airmen stationed with her. She worked on the turbo props for the C-130s, so she was the only female in their group. If they weren't pushing her for dates, they were constantly talking dirty. She told me the harassment was constant, and when I told her to go to her commanding officer, she said that she didn't want to rat on her fellow airmen and cause their careers to take a nosedive because of her complaints. I'm pretty sure the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" nonsense extends to sexual harassment as well as being gay.

I couldn't convince her otherwise. After being put on meds for being under constant duress, she managed to get them to agree to let her serve the rest of her time in the reserve. She did this by marrying her high school sweetheart, who had just joined the Army.

The military is still a "boy's club" in every sense of the word. I know it's "politically incorrect" and sounds old-fashioned, but I think that keeping the sexes separate in the military would eliminate a lot of the rapes, harassment, and unplanned pregnancies that are epidemic in the service. JMHO!

With all due respect to the OP, whether or not to get rid of the military is not the issue.

The issue is that 19 thousand rapes, per year, are occuring in the US Military. Only 13% being reported. This is being discussed on the floor of the House and supported by figures from The Department of Defense and it seems little is being done about this. That is the issue.

Is this thread a discussion about rape in the military and the issues that surround that, or was that topic meant to be a segue into a rant about the usefulness of the military, in general? I'm confused...

Regarding rape: one of the only ways this may begin to change is to eliminate the 'culture of silence' that is so deeply entrenched in the military. Victims need to be heard and supported, Attackers need to be held accountable. It's apparently easier said, then done...

I almost hesitate to suggest the only real and viable solution to this problem because it won't be a popular one. It'll take some time and patience is something no one seems to have anywhere these days. This type of abuse against women in the military will see some serious action when said women allow such an experience to make them that much stronger and angry.

Angry enough to push through the military system and BECOME one of those Commanding Officers which are required to cooperate in making something like this go away. Then, if those woman still have the fire in their gut and haven't been corrupted by the politics in getting high enough to making a difference, things may really start to change. No quick solutions though...

Who would operate, maintain and keep safe this tech?


That said, this is just awful, I never realized this was going on. I thought that men were commanded by men and women by women? Maybe that is just for basic?

Don't join the military? That seems like a guaranteed way for this to be avoided.

Why would a female be inclined to join the military? I'm truly curious.

I remember sparring with females while in martial arts training and completely changing my fighting style. Males don't generally wish to fight females.

But this is reality and people are going to join the military. So what do you propose, knowing that people are going to keep joining?

Why would a woman join? Same reason a man would?

As for men not wanting to fight women... That sounds like women would be an asset then.... So what can we do to make sure women are treated correctly in the military?

Unacceptable answer to the problem. That is essentially saying it is acceptable for rape to occur, because women should not be there. How is that an appropriate response to violence against women? In the military or otherwise?

You mean I was fed another lie by our military and government? This is disgusting. Serving in our military should not include forcible rape. Neither should a prison sentence.

if you bombard Guys into being one minded killing machines, all day and all night some will snap...

I am in no way saying this is alrght or acceptable but sadly this is fact... im not saying every man in the army/airforce or navy will snap, im not saying that every individual proffession in the military will cause this, i imagine special forces etc. have a much lower rate of Male/Female rape etc as these soldiers are more diciplined and get less down time so are always being watched and being dragged through training...

There is however areas of the army that after a long time serving will cause morals to fall into a gray area, its 1 of the MANY horrible side effects of war...

Keep women and men seperate... this will at least prevent women from being mistreated... sadly however it cant protect men.



(as a side note.. there are some proffessions that are still (or should still be) sex driven women make more empathetic nurses, men make better killing machines)

i am all for equal rights.. equal pay etc.. i do think at times sexes have specific roles they deal with better.
