Meir Kahane was a Rabbi and founder of the JDL (Jewish Defence League) and later on moved to Israel and founded Kach, which was becoming exceedingly
popular amongst the Sephardic youth before the ruling Israeli establishment branded it as racist and banned the party.
He has a horrible reputation here in the west; thanks to the media,
Having read almost all his books, and own 8 or 9 myself, he was a good man. He was a Rabbi who in his own life was noted for his own upstanding
morality. He was tremendously vehement in his support for the Jewish people.
He grew up in the generation following the holocaust. He was 13 when WWII ended. Imagine what that was like for a kid. In the 1960s Kahanes became an
activist against what was happening to Jews - particularly the old and impoverished - in the slums of brooklyn. Old men and women too afraid to go to
Synagogue in fear that they'll get robbed or even killed. The police not getting involved because of the control of inner city gangs.
This was what initially motivated in his life. Eventually, he became more knowledgeable. Got a law degree from NYU, got degrees in political science.
He also came from a Cohanic family - Kahane being a form of "Cohen". His father was a rabbi and his father was a Rabbi. All mystics, educated men and
involved in business.
