According to a report just out by "live science", this year has been the busiest year on record for ufo sightings.

Of course it could mean that we are under imminent attack by Alien Invaders or it could be that more and more of us are seeing things in the sky that we just can't explain.

For me it is a bit of both! The more ufo reports there are the more chance that one of them is the holy grail.

I'll leave you with a link to the full story.

I apologize in advance for the link. It is through Fux News

www.foxnews.com... r/

According to an organization that tracks UFO reports, this summer has been an especially busy period for UFO sightings. The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) noted that sightings increased over the past six weeks, with some states more than doubling their normal numbers. Are we on the cusp of an alien invasion? Or maybe people just have more time on their hands to spot — and report — strange things in the sky? Read more: www.foxnews.com...

I think its probably got more to do with this than imminent attack by Alien Invaders .

As Clift noted, "It's likely that the media and [alien-themed] movies that are coming out, like 'Apollo 18' and 'Paul,' are piquing people's interest in UFOs."
People hear about UFOs, and for a while they tend to look at the sky more often, wondering if they might have their own sighting. And precisely because people are spending more time looking at the sky, they will for the first time notice (normal) lights and objects that have always been there.

I don't see any thing in the article saying that this has been the busiest year. It just says there was an increase in the past six weeks.

Yes
I see you are correct.
Does it deflect on the thread?

My assumption is that if it was the busiest Summer on top of an average year , we would have a higher than average year of UFO reports!

Large assumption but "higher than average" does not translate to "the busiest year on record for ufo sightings."

I'd find it hard to believe that the reported sightings in 2011 exceed those of some of the big 'UFO Flaps' of the 50's, 60's and 70's.

I concede. I can offer this though.

UFO Sightings Increase 67 Percent In 3 Years, History Channel Investigates Unexplained Aerial Phenomena

what it is really saying that the past three years are the highest on record.

It does not single out 2011 like i stated in my op.

Thanks for the post.

Maybe the article says it or means it but this time I am a little skeptic as well

First of all, there could be more lights that are explainable, afterall 99% are explainable. So, just because people see more 'UFOs' does that mean there are more aircrafts? I do not think this data is very correct or talks about real increase of unidentified aircraft as it takes into account all kinds of UFOs being reported whereas it could be more people thinking they see UFOs when they are in fact something explainable.

It's also important to keep in mind that the statistics are for sightings reported to MUFON. Since there have been a couple of high profile TV programs running for the past three years, that could have something to do with the increased reports. It does not necessarily indicate an increase in sightings or that the reports are valid.

I just ran a quick check for January. Here's an example of how poor a MUFON report can be:

I was taking random pictures while on the bus going around Landover Mall and saw what appears to be a UFO in two of them in the 4:21 PM photos. Saucer shaped, kind of a silhouette in front of the sun. Could have been a bird, but it doesn't look wingy. Clearly not a plane or blimp. Possibly a blur of the camera with the sun. But it definitely looks saucer-like. Never actually saw it as I was simply holding up my phone/camera snapping pictures. I felt a little wow.

I take your point............. But i have no way of knowing the substance of these reports, just, as you say.........reports, but thats exactly what all ufo reports are. 99% are explainable. We are Interested in the 1% that we can hopefully get hold of and try and debunk. The Holly Grail is the one that we can't debunk and smacks of detail and authenticity.

My point in the op was that a busy year shortens the odds of getting a real good UFO report that we can get our teeth into. Statistically this makes sense.

Here's another link from GEIPAN, (the group for information and study of unidentified aerospacial phenomenon) which a branch of the CNES, the french equivalent of NASA.

Here's the link

It's all in french but essentially, it classifies the number of observation by years. While it's probably only for France, it does not show a spike in observations this year (although it might not be up to date for 2011).

My turn to concede...somewhat.

The other side of the coin is that 1% was based on the fewer number of reports. If reports double that 1% could very well drop to 0.5%.

I have seen many myself, including one like 2 days ago which was not higher than around 100-200 feet in the sky. Silent, with light, not moving until you see it then it realize it has been spotted and start moving to another position. No proof but this is typical and I think contact with humanity will happen soon.

Obviously a lens flare. But consider this report.

Driving East bound on US 60 between Val Vista and Higley at 1923 hours I looked up to my right and saw a bright amber/orange object approx at a 40 degree angle off of the south/eastern horizon. If I held my fingers up to measurer the object, it would have been an inch between my fingers which may help give an idea of the distance of the object. It was difficult to estimate distance due to the darkness. The object looked like what a disc type object would from a side view and it was an extremely bright amber/orange and looked as if it was emanating light from the inside and had a soft glow around it. There was also a thin reddish line on the bottom. As I said, it was dark out which made this object very easy to see. Suddenly the object shrunk in on itself and disappeared leaving 3 or 4 tiny blinking multi colored lights which also quickly disappeared. This lasted approx 30-35 seconds. I am sure this was not an airplane and it was definitely unusual.

No pictures with this report but if what he is saying is true then he has an interesting story.

SOURCE

Normally I would not discount the significance of a statistic but...

Out of all these reports we have yet to prove who owns and operates some of these UFOs or even if they are real for that matter.
