GOP calls Obama's tax plan 'class warfare'

Republicans on Sunday decried the notion of a new minimum tax rate for millionaires as “class warfare,” saying the proposal by President Obama may be intended to portray Congressional Republicans who resist it as being callously indifferent to the hardships facing many Americans. Representative Paul Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, said the tax proposal, which Mr. Obama is expected to unveil on Monday, would also weigh heavily on a stagnating economy.

“It adds further instability to our system, more uncertainty, and it punishes job creation,” Mr. Ryan said on “Fox News Sunday.” “Class warfare may make for really good politics, but it makes for rotten economics.” The pushback from Republicans — Mr. Ryan was not the only one to use the words “class warfare” — was in response to a White House assertion that Mr. Obama would call for a new minimum tax rate for individuals making more than $1 million a year to ensure that they pay at least the same percentage of their earnings as middle-income taxpayers.

This is the straw that broke the camels back. How dare this socialist president expect millionaires to pay the same percentage as the common peasants.

You notice that the GOP has no problems when taxes go up on the bottom 98% but if taxes are going up on the top 2% it's class warfare and he's punishing the job creators. Seeing what the unemployment rate is the GOP shouldn't call these people job creators.

Not so Buster, NO Taxes means no taxes. Not on 98%, 2% or the top .05% in this case. No new taxes. Cut spending and live within our means. More taxes of any kind simply feeds more blood to the vampires in DC.

Cut spending.

The only class warfare going on is how the ultra wealthy and mega corporations are taking more and more from us regular folk, day after day.
Then when they eff it up, we have to pay to fix it.
When they contaminate the gulf, we have to pay.
When the economy collapses because of their greed, we pay.
And the ultra wealthy get fatter and fatter laughing all the way to the bank.
Laughing at you & I.

No taxes is good but time to come back to reality. Obama isn't going to try to do that you know it as well as I do. Clinton raised taxes and he had one of the lowest unemployment rates in history. Everyone should be paying the same rate of taxes.

They're already calling it the Buffet plan. I realize the need to increase taxes, but it should be to lower the deficit...and as said earlier, cut spending as well with the same goal.

Raising taxes on the rich, yet spending as our Gov't has will do not good at all. In it's current state, it will stifle job growth along with the economy.

Taxing the rich into poverty will not fix our problems as the current POTUS would have us believe.

Tax the war machine that profits on the death and blood of our youth. Tax the energy companies that get subsidies even when making record profits. Tax the mega corporate farms that get subsidies for not planting to keep prices high for the working man. Tax the companies that prefer to employ foreign workers over American workers to maximize profits and keep said profits in an off shore accounts to avoid their paying their fair share.

Level the playing field and stop the GOPs war on the middle class.

And don't let your ideology get in the way of your commons sense. Rush is a dork, think for yourself and stop with the Limbaugh letter talking points; we have all heard them and they are so predictable and lame!!

The only class warfare is the GOPs war on the middle class and the American working man.

Yeah, Obama wants to introduce the "Buffett rule" name after billionaire Buffett as he himself came with the proposed increased, but as usual Republicans will not have it, they are happy with gouging the middle class to keep the wealthy class power.

Clinton was blessed with the internet bubble.... I would be all for everyone paying the same tax rate but that isn't what is happening when 50% don't even pay taxes. Give me a flat rate tax and I would be good with it.

Remember for all of the people complaining about the rich and the corporations, I never got one paycheck from anyone else but someone with money.

seems to me that job creation should be rewarded with tax incentives, but it should be an after effect of the job creation not based on empty promises that run second to investor demands.

Because they have no money left at the end to PAY anything. I am so damn sick of hearing this BS. Do you think you could pay all your bills at 5.50/hr (what min wage was for like 10 yrs till just recently)? Do you honestly think you should have to pay goddamn taxes when your take home pay is 200 a week and most places to rent are 900+ nevermind ever owning your own #. You people are on drugs, THERE'S NO DAMN WAY YOU WILL GET A DAMN DIME PAID BY A MIN WAGE EARNER OR ANYTHING BELOW THE $50,000/YEAR INCOME...SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY HAVE BARELY ENOUGH TO LIVE AS IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know something is definitely wrong in this nation when a billionaire comes with a proposition like this, now what in the hell is wrong with the Republicraps that they seem to think that gouging the working class is warranted over the wealthiest in the nation?

Yes your are right, but for how long will this country economy keeps going when most of what used to be the middle class keeps turning into working poor, somebody will have to provide for their financial needs.

So I guess the rich eventually will have to give away in order to be able to leech somebody else.

Because a welfare nation is what we are becoming.

Nobody can work and feed a family on minimum wages, support the economy and pay taxes.

that was the job of the middle class once upon a time.

I'm not a rich person but I have worked for and with people who own businesses and have a lot more money than I do. I want to let you in on a little secret - they don't think the way you and I do. If a rich person decides he wants to by a $200,000 boat - he is going to buy it. Say the government raises his taxes by $200,000 right when he wants to buy the boat. He does not say "well I guess I can't afford my boat." He calls his accountant and asks how many people he has to lay off to pay the taxes and still buy the boat. The government may get the $200,000 in taxes but now has to pay unemployment to 4 people who got laid off. The rich guy has his boat anyway.

Am I saying this is right? Of course not - but it is reality. Just like corporations rich people don't really pay taxes. They just have their accountants and financial consultants shift things around to do what they want to do anyway. If taxes get too high in one state - they just move to another. If one investment vehicle is taxed - they just move to another. If the US becomes too hostile of a business environment - they just move to China. The loser is always the poor sap who loses his job to "free up" money to pay the new taxes.

I don't know why you are replying to him. Neo = Neo natzi I am almost positive that's what he means by his name. His Mild annoyance should just be ignored...and watch when one day KARMA bite him in the A$$. Then we can tell him he should be paying taxes to prop up the rich bastards. Do you know how to make trolls go away ignore their responses pretend they're not there. Their stupidity is not even worth responding to.

the first mistake americans are making is thinking they are middle class they arent even close

second mistake we have been a welfare nation for years if not decades figure in the amount of people and other government subsidies who soles means of support is the government.

my first job was at 3.25 an hour.

it is all about the vaule of the dollar millionaires and billionaire terminology are meaninless.point of fact

a family or person earning 10k in 1913 would have todays value of over $228 thousand dollars today

taxation is not the solution here stopping the federal reserve is.

Neither taxes nor the FED are going anywhere, this is self evident. The FED owns our BUTTS and the government needs the taxes to buy some of OUR BUTTS BACK!

Well, I have been around for a long time, I remember when America was prosperous I grew up during that prosperity, one parent working and mother at home, money enought to buy a home pay it off, raise 4 children and we all went to college, all on what once used to be a middle income class.

My father retired and now doing worst that he did during his working life, savings been drained by medical care and raising cost of living.

Still they payoff their home and never put a mortgage on it. That was the American dream.

How many people today can achieved that dream as working poor? very soon nobody.

The federal Reserve is a problem but one that is not going anywhere.

If they throw out income tax and only tax the corporations like the constitution mandates, then everyone can afford higher prices and we can all live happily ever after. and since the rich pay literally no tax whatsoever, they should be required to pay to the penny what we pay......PERIOD

its only fair
