And as far as congress blindly following orders of the president, I haven't the slightest clue as to what countries politics you've been paying attention to but it surely isn't the United States.

Then you must have slept through, or for some other reason missed the first two years of the obama administration when obama had a majority in the house and a filibuster-proof majority in the senate.

Yes, it was exactly - in the United States - how we ended up with obamascare, and the extreme pork barrel spending bill disguised by obama and his buddies in the house and senate as the "stimulus bill" - that actually did nothing to stimulate the economy (just look around).

So, where were you from 2008 to 2010 while all this was going on?

I'm not an Obama sympathizer in the least, but when have you ever heard of Congress doing anything productive?

I don't think the POTUS should be able to by pass Congress, but Congress needs an overhaul. It has a horrible approval rating and lacks efficiency and productivity. Its like a giant lumbering sloth that can't agree on anything.

That kind of inaction is far more dangerous than Bush or Obama wanting to be dictators. The reason being is that it makes dictatorship attractive. There is simply too much bureaucracy and as the worse it gets, the public are going to be begging and demanding for an absolute executive in the White House.

Sometimes them doing nothing is productive enough, at least more so than passing stupid laws before reading them.

Look at the results of countries run by dictators. Nazi Germany, North Korea, Stalin era USSR, the Roman Empire, whatever....The one common thing that dictator run countries have is that a lot of people tend to die. The inefficiency of Congress is by design because it limits both the tyranny of a majority and the tyranny of a few.

I would rather have a body of people squabbling over the writing of laws than one man (or a few) being able to affect my life on any whimsical decision.

This thread was busy whilst I was away wow! I find it encouraging that it seems even Obama supporters are seeing the truth, that the "punch" has worn off... We have to realize that there is no two party republic in this country it is a bureaucracy, and the sooner we as a cohesive public see that instead of turning into a my side your side fight, we see it as an Us and Them situation, because honestly you can banner wave all you want and you can get your guy into office...If that is the TPTB agree with your pick
but you still end up getting your pound of fat taken just like the guy that didnt vote for your pick....we all get screwed equally here folks, and I hope that everyone gets that soon enough finds some kinship in this truth and let all the other petty differences fall away. Because what these guys rely on, what the need to have, is us arguing amongst ourselves and treating each other badly, about trivial S*@! and not paying attention to what they are or arent doing for the people or too the people. Thank you all so far for a relatively civil discussion, it was brilliant seeing all the discussion that happened while I was away.
