SAT reading scores hit record low for Class of 2011
The Class of 2011 logged the lowest SAT reading scores ever, while the combined reading and math scores hit their lowest point in 16 years, the College Board said today. Just over 40% of the high school seniors met benchmarks for college success.
The mean reading score on the 800-point test was 497, a three-point drop over 2010 and one of the biggest annual declines in two decades. In 2005, the mean reading score -- half scoring above and half below -- was 508.

Based on the above graph, whcih represents inflation adjusted public school spending vs test scores since 1970, the obvious solution to this issue is more money.

The Students they failed to Teach will have to pay for them to enjoy their beach house in Florida.
As Asian immigrants become more completely assimilated into American society over the next few generations, their standards of hard work and academic excellence will drop, and they will feel more at home here.

Students also need to have the will to learn , most I see are more interested in their Iphone and social networking sites . Those who DO wish to better themselves wil never fail. Easy to blame the system , but it's a two way street imho.
just sayin'

You're grasping at straws here. It IS the Teachers job to Teach and to create a good learning environment. They are well paid to do so. Making excuses for them has to end at some point. When you have the problem of Tenure we can expect nothing but mediocrity.
