I used to live in upstate NY for several years which is a BLUE liberal Democrat state, and also lived in Texas a FANATICAL RED-STATE, and I will tell you the 100% HONEST truth: Blacks living in NY who dont even CARE to earn a living for themselves or even CARE to get further educated and have a decent career are living WAY better quality of life than the average working couple in Texas (or the south) who work two jobs each, genuinely trying with every CELL in the bodies to pay the damned electric bill AND rent or mortgage each month while trying to put food on their table.

Its not even CLOSE. I can see why they favor the Democrats. And its the truth. Imagine Rick Perry or any CONservative HARD-RIGHT politician being elected in NY?? CASE CLOSED!!!!

The Democrats treat blacks like KINGS. Blacks in Democratic blue states aint stupid. They know damned well that Democrats are not "crushing" them. Now Republicans... they "crush" everyone but the SUPER-wealthy...

Review some history. The American South was Democrat until the civil rights bill and then the parties swapped geography North/South.

Same people...different parties...different idealogies. Abe Lincoln turns over in his grave everytime a contemporary Republican speaks.

Ask the Republican South what they think of Abe Lincoln, Desegragration, the civil rights bill etc.

Or maybe just look at an electoral map from that time period?...either way, enough with the "if your aunt had a penis she would be your uncle" non-logic, nonsense.

Labels mean different things in different times. Neither party caters to their interests in actuality, and it's a shame that they cannot see this for themselves. But the same can be said about the poor white population that vote Republican.

Blacks are not married to any political party, anymore than any other ethnic group in this country is. It just so happens that between the 30's and the 60's both parties made an ideological shift and black voters did what every other voter does (unless your poor white and in the south), and voted with the party that they perceived to be in their self-interests. To even use this argument that they would still be slaves without the Republican Party, equating the party ideology of the 1800's to the party ideology of today is completely disingenuous they are not the same. Up until the ideological shift Black voters were typically staunch Republicans, or as you put it "married" to the Republican Party.

Quoted Outkast to reitterate the point. The ideologies of both parties have changed since the late 1800's. Today, Lincoln would be considered a Liberal.

But to answer the question about why "Blacks married to the Democratic Party" (not the words I would choose)

Ever heard of a guy named John F. Kennedy?

Firstly, to proclaim that blacks voted for Obama because he is black is just nonsense. Blacks voted for him because he is a Democrat. Black people generally tend to favor Democrats. They would have voted for Obama if he was white as long as he was a democrat.

As to why many of them tend to vote that way-Because it represents their economic interests. Poor blacks, unlike poor whites, don't tend to get sidetracked by "social issues" like gay marriage. If the Republican party represented the economic interests of most blacks then you would see them voting for the GOP.

That was then, this is now, their is different things each party is representing now and people take sides to what apples to them.... You should know that if your old enough to vote....

The only reason Lincoln freed the slaves in the North is because he needed troops for the Union Army.
