www.debka.com...

According to the Debka article The US has put enough pressure on Abbas to get him to back off on statehood. so now there will be extreme pressure on Israel to enter negotiations with the Palestinians.

In my opinion this is a HUGE mistake for the Palestinians as Israel will simply continue to do what they have always done in the past. Nogotiate? Sure, as long as it does not amount to anything of substance. Israel will, as in the past, insist on controlling borders, water and airspace. A soverign Palestine will not be able to have a standing army or even an airport. No East Jerusalem as a Palestinian capitol. No right of return. These are the oft stated demands of the Israelis and they will not change. A year from now the Palestinians will be no furthur ahead. If Debka is accurate it is a HUGE mistake for Abbas. My opinion.

Correct me if I am wrong but this comes from the OP link

Abbas said he would make his final decision known in a public address from Ramallah Friday, Sept 16 before flying to New York to join world leaders at the UN General Assembly's 66th session which began Tuesday.

The article sounds a lot closer to very strong speculation and educating guessing than any official decision on their position. There is also nothing crossing Al Jazeera, let alone western news or federal agency press releases... Hmm...

You are funny OP. Debka!

Best joke thread ever.

Here's the REAL news..

Abbas: UN bid is 'irreversible', has broad international support (Ch. 10)

Debka FAILS once again.

OP no disrespect, but you've been here for more than a year... you should know that Debka is full of it.

I hope your right. The report didn't sound believable. Surely more sources on such an important matter would exist.

If it's true I'm pissed

I'm hoping for some big change for the Palestinians. They deserve it.

This has to be false, no offense to the OP. Please be false

ETA: Great find Vitchilo.

As of a few hours ago, the pressure was still on them, but they haven't withdrawn their bid yet.

Guardian Source

Irinnews

As of a few days ago, Yahoo reporting they would NOT give in to US pressure.

Debka is usually junk.

it's a small scale ploy/distraction (mediocre propaganda)

they have too much support now for them not to go ahead with attempting to be internationally recognized.

what disgusts me though, is how eager the US/Canada were to give a state to Kosovo and now to Libya's NTC but turn a blind eye to Palestine or South Ossetia/Abkhazia.

only when it is in their interest.

this was a comment on jerusalem post;
"War is coming on every front and each person must be prepared to fight for Israel."

its coming eventually.

Hmmm...you never had a problem quoting debka before:

www.abovetopsecret.com...
www.abovetopsecret.com...

but press TV is just fine by your unbiased standards right?

www.abovetopsecret.com...
www.abovetopsecret.com...

and on and on.

Basically, debka is just fine when it suits your usual fear / war mongering anti Jew / Zionists incitements.

As long as Hamas is the elected governing body of the Palestinians, there is no hope of negotiating a two state solution. It is unfortunate because the majority of Israeli citizens and a fair number of Palestinians support a peaceful coexistence.

If the palestinians did recieve a statehood, what if some of there
military shot shells off into israel? Wouldn't that be considered an
act of war by default?

( But first, he meets Middle East Quartet envoy Tony Blair in Amman for a conversation which debkafile's exclusive sources term critical, because Blair will hand him a document termed by senior Washington sources "an outline" of a new format designed to oil Palestinian wheels into unlocking the long-stalled Palestinian dialogue with Israel. )

if Blair is involved, does it still have credibility?

The Palestinian vote is a problem for Israel and for Obama who wants to veto the vote and if Obama does, Saudi Arabia and other middle eastern nations will view what Obama does as a political problem that will not be forgotten at election time and which will further aggravate tensions and undermine the foreign policy of Obamas handlers with anything middle east related.

This is why in my mind the only thing that could save Israel and Obama from such a Palestinian vote is a well timed distraction or some natural disaster or national emergency that if serious enough, could cancel the vote or suspend the vote for some other date.

Since the date for the vote is set for Sept 20. this to me means that some calamity or natural disaster has to occur on or about Sept 15 or 16th in order to allow for the media to take the disaster or natural disaster and build it into the propaganda arm that both Obama and Israel will need to appear as if they had absolutely nothing to do with a natural disaster that somehow would contribute to the suspension of the Palestinian vote set for Sept. 20, 2011.

In view of those that feel a major earthquake will occur on Sept 15th based on some 188 day theory, this could be the ticket that gets used to stop the Palestinian vote and requires all the nations to shift their priorities to the world scene as a result of some disaster or problem that might arise and require their immediate attention.

Time will tell, but I don't think that the vote will be allowed and this is why some disaster or other major problem is the only thing I can think of that would help both Obama and Israel.

Should the Palestinian leadership somehow decide not to pursue a vote for statehood, then my thoughts would lean to some sweet deal that Obama has offered that of course must be kept confidential or for all we know, such leadership could have been threatened or even black mailed into pulling their petition for a vote.

While I would like to see the vote occur, I just have not been confident that such a vote would ever take place because of course too many players like Israel and Obama have other priorities and the vote is not one of them.

Thanks for the thread.

Actually when I sourced debka it was because it was real information, confirmed by other sources. Like your first link is Israeli exercises on the border with Lebanon, which did happen.

The second link is indeed BS...

And PressTV reports real news most of the time. They rarely make stuff up, I know I have been reading them for years. Of course, they add their twist to the news, just like JPost or Haaretz or CNN. A bunch of time they exaggerate, just like western MSM.

But PressTV rarely just makes stuff up. Debka on the other hamd, does it ALL THE TIME... I mean several times a week.

Debka is written by two right wing extremists in Israel.

And sorry but my ``anti-jew/zionists`` posts are against the scum running the Israeli government and all those supporting it. The Israeli government is run by criminals, war criminals, corrupt scum, and even the Israeli population has understood that, considering the massive protests we have seen in the last months.

When I criticize the American government, do I hate christians or americans? No. I hate the US government along with all the lemmings who love it no matter what it does.

You religious people are trying to create a strawman with ``criticizing Israel is hating jews`` well it ain't working anymore.

Debka presents this as pretty much a done deal to not proceed with a statehood bid. They of course may be completely off base but extreme pressure IS being put on Abbas NOT to proceed. Obama does not want to be seen as the "killer" of a Palestinian state. On the other hand negotiations have not worked for forty years so there is no expectation they will succeed under the present conditions. If however Palestine is deemed a stste the dynamics will change in the Palestinians favor. Israel will no longer be able to act with impunity within Palestine. Just as I believed Israel deserved a state, I believe the Palestinians deserve a state. They will NEVER get it from Israel without the UN vote.
