Virginia Writing Spider

My mom's boyfriend told us a story of the virgina writing spider and how if you mess with it it writes your name, I've done searches and found that it was an old wives tale but he still says that it actually happened to him and his sister. I was just wondering if anyone actually had any pictures of it happening to them, or if this is just an old wives tale and a hoax and can never happen.

Seriously, I never heard of it.

If it did exist, I would do to it what I do to any spider in my house...SQUISH! If it indeed could write my name, that would be even more cause for concern, and just another reason it would need to die.

Then, I'd have to hear my wife moan about what an evil man I am for killing it.

My moms boyfriend swears up and down though that he seen his and his sisters name in the web. I said "maybe you guys were high" and he said "my sister was only 7 at the time". So I don't know what to believe.

Has your mom's boyfriend tried to take you snipe hunting yet?
I've heard of the writing spider before and he is pulling your leg.
He sounds like one of the many good ole boys here in Virginia that loves to tell tall tales.
Go back and tell him you saw the spider write his name.

Charlotte's Web was my all time favorite story from childhood. Isn't interesting that even in our literature paranormal themes and wives tales run through. I suspect there is much more to our oral traditions and myths than we recall. Then again, maybe not. If is fun to think a spider like this might exist though. Wilbur definitely benefited from her existence.
