I believe you. There were actually a number of ads showing a plane near the Towers....or sometimes the Empire State building or even the Chrysler building. It's done to create an effect....part art, part "visceral" advertising with the goal obviously of getting you to at least read the ad and maybe buy the product.

In hindsight it's eerie, but only in hindsight.
