Rugby is much more physically demanding in terms of strength as well as stamina, and actually requires a surprising amount of situational awareness and on the fly thinking. Trust me, as an American that played both sports, rugby is superior to football according almost everyone who plays both, including myself. Short shorts still make me feel a bit funny, but as soon as we start slamming into each other full speed it ceases to matter.

Rugby isn't advertised here very much. I'm curious; New Zealand and Australia are #1 and #2? Who are expected to be the #3 and #4 teams?

Now, I have played football, both American and the international, (though not Canadian or Australian). As well as rugby. I will defer that rugby is more physically demanding by way of stamina, nothing comes close to the physical pounding you will receive in a game of American football.

To the op,
If this were truly just a rugby world cup thread, then why title it with such an inflammatory title?
Real Men?
You knew what was coming.
At least this way you get some people to actually post in your thread.

Really? It depends on the position played in football. A wide reciever or rb or qb won't feel half the punishment that those on the ol or dl will. And it takes just as much situational awareness.
I'm not trying to take anything away from rugby, I played for a while, until my football injuries caught up with me.

After losing my 3 front teeth, a broken shoulder, various muscle injuries, bruised testicles and batterd back of the neck and shoulders through scruming down and rolling rooks, I concur with the op!

I gave up playing 18 months ago.

I LOVE rugby but was pissed off with Englands performance against Argentina today.
