Massive blackout in San Diego and beyond 9-8-2001

A massive black out from an unknown cause affects San Diego, Southern Orange county and Northern Mexico. I hope this doesn't last too long for them. So many people without power could cause some major chaos.

Communities across San Diego went dark on Thursday afternoon as a power outage plagued parts of the county. Southern parts of Orange County, Coachella Valley, eastern San Diego and northern Mexico are experiencing outages as well.
More than 1.4 million SDG&E customers are without power, with millions affected by the outage. All other service providers have power.
An SDG&E official just stated, "We expect power to be out well into the night and into tomorrow in some areas."
An event happened between Arizona and California to cause both major connections to the region to lose connection. Major connectors in the region have been severed, causing the outage. The extreme heat in some areas also may have caused some problems with the lines, according to SDG&E.
California Independent System Operator is helping to bring power back on.

Sounds like it may have been a surge from so many AC units on. I hope it is just one night, because in todays social climate, more than a couple of nights of blackout could become a catalyst for mayhem.

Could it be from a thread that was posted yesterday about the sun emitting a earth directed CME

Edit: It said it would take 48-72 hours to see any effects from it....?? Just throwing this out there, and not claiming to be true cause i'm far from a astrophysicist

I hope I don't wake in the morning to see San Diego burning. That's one of the few cities I like.

But with the heat, tempers will rise. I hope they all remain calm.

I sure hope people in those areas are in a friendly and neighborly mood tonight. Those are some LARGE and rough areas to lose all electricity long enough for criminals to take advantage of it. Thats going to be a VERY long night for some folks, I'll bet.

It's the CME, caused by the COMET. Expect more over the next three weeks...

star for mentioning it first ... that was my first thought when i read the headline ... skeptical now though since it's centralized with one provider. However, that CME was due to arrive the 8th or 9th i think. sure hope this situation improves quickly for all.

That's what I thought when I first heard about it. It was a X2 flare so it might be the blame. I hope someone on here can do a little research and find out if the flare is what caused the blackout!

AC please. I am from SD and we have had way hotter months and never ever had a brown out.

This is NOT from the CME, if it were we would see it in the simulation from the magnetosphere. Now if it happens between tomorrow and the 11th in conjunction with a CME I pace as shown on the magnetosphere, then we might attribute it to a CME, but these CME's shouldn't be large enough to affect power grids. Trust me, I was the OP of the x flare thread

Has anyone considered the fact that, with all of the lenticular cloud sightings on the west coast and Japan the last 2 weeks, along with 2 X-class flares in less than 48 hours, that this event has happened on purpose?

Why, you ask?

Simple.

We all know that governments use chaos to further agendas, and lately, things have not been going too well for them. What better way to promote chaos than to cut the power to a large metropolitan region right before a catastrophe- say, an earthquake. If (big if, I know) they had some amount of data that somehow gave them foreknowledge of an event, would they not then use that to further some type of agenda?

Most of the time, no one ever speaks these kind of thoughts while the events are unraveling, only after the fact. So there- I said it. And never have I wished to be wrong more than this moment.

Just keep your eyes open everyone- it might happen so fast, you'll miss it. We missed 9-11..........
