This is the threat> Name: Blackhole Exploit Kit (type 1889)

Anyone else having this problem?

Yesterday I got this message when I was at that other site and had clicked on the link to a news article.

My firewall has never hit on ATS.
Maybe you have something on your computer already?
Who knows.
ATS is safe as far as I know.

Ever since ATS has whored this site out to the fullest extent possible and squeeze every last penny out of it, it's left it's self open to 3rd party advertisers who don't always have the user's best interest in mind.

What your pop up was about was one of these 3rd party advertisers who your firewall/AV program did not like or has had complaints about already.

No it was not an ATS virus, but an attempt to "steal" info from ATS users through advertising and analytic programs ATS allows.

The "AVG" went on to say that I should follow this URL, cv3j. co.cc/index .php?tp=cad881fd3bce 1b52

( I put spaces in it in case anyone clicked on it.)

I've been checking around and it seems this thing was prevalent earlier this year.
Some have suggested that it is Pretending to be a message from AVG; and that the suggested URL is what would give you the virus.
Also it was suggested that it came with the Ads.

I see we are also getting "mouse over" pop-ups now too.
There was a Verizon ad at the top of the recent forms page and bang. up came a big intrusive ad.

These folks are destroying their own site!

Use Ad Block Plus to block all ads and pop ups in Firefox or Chrome browser.

You should also download Malwarebytes www.malwarebytes.org... and run a scan on your computer to make sure it's clean.

Isn't that against the T&C we agreed to for ATS?

Kinda think so.

20b) Ad Blockers: As the Websites are provided as a free service, in part through the income of our advertising, you agree not to use "ad-blocking" software or similar built-in web browser options designed to obfuscate or block online advertising while using the Websites.

If you're getting virus alerts from pop ups on this site you should have every right to protect your computer by blocking them. System security should trump T&C.

The past couple of times I've opened Above Top Secret, I've had AVG block something called exploit black hole as well. It's the only website that it's happened to me with. Unfortunately I have a massive ignorance of computers but a Google on the name said it's Russian Crimeware or something of the like.

forums.avg.com... There's some stuff about it here but I find it hard to follow anything about computers that goes beyond drawing a stick man on paint....

Me too. I got three virus alerts yesterday. Can't remember the names. As soon as I see stuff like that I click em away in a panic.

Oh fudge that ad was the worst! Every time I hovered my mouse within 700 pixels of it, it shot open and sneezed all over my screen. After the fifth time, I found another news site to read for the day.

I interpret these ads to mean "this website does not want your browsing business today", so I listen and move on.

Nothing lost.

A quick Google search can fix those Pop up / In text adds, with out pop up blocker.

So what about the virus alerts? Are they the real thing or just a silly pop-up in disguise?

I remember something just like this happening and what I did was waited until the next Anti virus update.
