I am a long time fan of Black Metal, I like older stuff better but there is a lot of good music still being made. Anyway, lets make this a thread where you list your favorite 3.

Wolves In The Throne Room
Darkthrone
Bathory

Windir
Stiny plamenu
and yea I guess Darkthrone

Never really was much of an emperor/immortal fan. I do love these guys though\/

Blues and Black metal it's like peanut butter and chocolate. So obvious but so rarely done well.

Similar in that they are all metal I guess. The first two are death metal the third is like goth metal I guess. Though CoFs earlier stuff was black metal they shed that once the fad died down. Opeth is kinda like the antithesis of BM, complex and well produced with populist elements added in to broaden the audience.

I didn't know there was such a thing. I just assumed they were all R&B Artists and rappers.

The original Black Metaler. Sold his soul to the devil, played a mean guitar and died under shadowy circumstances. sounds pretty black metal to me.

So many legendary stories of black metal bands and some of the craziest sh@t you could ever imagine. Does anyone on here like BURZUM? Varg is a nut!

Hah im re-reading lords of chaos right now. There is this picture of varg going to trial with woody nelson style braids in is hair. That picture cracks me up especially since he couldnt grow a beard back then so he looks like "a tall girl" as moss would say. Looks like he has bulked up since being in jail though. When does that lunatic get out anyway? I heard it was 2012 but after the 'escape' and weapons smuggling thing it might be longer

How can one not like Varg's art?

I came here to scream VENOM! But I see other folks with great taste got here before me. So I'll just drop this instead...

I grew up in the Bay, back in the day, so I have to include 'em.

To me Ackercocke is really weird...
His creations frightened me

Just cannot stand his and the bands music.
This One is a strange One...
I rather would enjoy a dinner with Watain then listen to some ov Ackercocke's works.
Strange one indeed

Opeth are about as far from Death metal as you can get.. Yes Mikael has amazing death vocals but they are not nor have they ever been death metal. The closest you could get to that would have been My Arms, Your Hearse simply because that was a heavier release across the course of the album.. Personally my favorites from them are Blackwater Park (the end where everything kicks back in tr00 kvlt!) and Still Life ..Though if you couldn't guess I have been a bit of an Opeth fanboy over the past 15 years so...yah..

anyway..best black metal

Mayhem
Emperor
Darkthrone
Immortal

I think you could take any of those say to someone, "this is BM"..
Anyway..I have been listening to Ihshan a lot recently...
Some great solid new death\doom would be Novembers Doom.

Yah..MDB... Turn Loose The Swans is a pretty epic release...
Same with The Angel the and Dark River..obviously they were moving towards a cleaner sound but Martin had some amazing violins on it..The violin solo in a Sea to Suffer In is awesome. A Map of All Our Failures, (current release) is surprisingly good..

and I forgot how good the opening of Into Night's Requiem Infernal is!
Here is the pic i was talking about.
