It just stormed like hell here? Not a cloud in sight, lasted for less than a minute.

Borderline creepy. I know a sudden shower isn't unheard of but a sudden shower that knocks out the power and has winds going very fast knocking stuff over? It was creepy. Does anyone know what could have happened?

I was just minding my business on this sunny day when my power shut off. I looked out side and the trees were billowing in the wind and it rained so hard that within 15 seconds it shattered a cigarette in half that was sitting within its pack.

Anyone know what happened?

Think he was saying it rained quite hard, hard enough to wreck a ciggy in its packet - now hats pretty hard to be honest.

Sounds very odd buddy, we had a sudden downpour here in Bodmin last week although the sun was still blazing down on us

It lasted for a minute. Things like that don't happen do they? When there isnt a cloud in sight?

I am with this guy.

First of all, there is a ton of info missing from this post. No one will be able to tell you "what happened" unless you post information like your location and the EXACT time of the storm.

Chances are it was just a storm. You people can sensationalize just about anything. Good god.

Where are you located? With that, one could perhaps peruse the local weather radar in your area and perhaps make a more concise determination on the cause or at least rule others out.

I heard hurricane Irene destroyed 13 ciggys in a packet, so gives you some idea of the intensity.

Cloudburst

Not common, but not rare either.

I was just outside Spokane Washington at the Hooters Casino with some friends about 7 years ago and the same thing happened with Snow...Locals said it happens from a storm elsewhere getting picked it up and dispersed in the jet stream then solidifying in the cold air..Then it drops back down because it's heavier and when it gets to warmer temperatures some turns to big raindrops some to smaller snowflakes. If it was warmer where you are I doubt there would snow in it... Like you said when it happened to me there wasn't a cloud in the sky but it was definitely storming.

Was this in the Cleveland area? We had some weird but strong pocket storms (is that a term?) here yesterday morn into early afternoon.

The radar picture was yowza to say the least. Pretty cool though.

Without any more information as to the time and location then we can only suspect that you happened outside during one of your neighbors watering times. Sprinklers are crazy weather devices!

As for the ciggy, well GOD probably is sending you a message that you need to quit!

Umm dude, if you look at the radar, there are many small cells going through your state, just like VA.

Since you said Kentucky, that's pretty broad...but there are storms going through the state now.
