But you don't get the death penalty for lighting up a blunt or some other form of non-violent "crimes." The kind of people that are on death row aren't good people who made one-time mistakes, they are there because their only intent is to do harm to others and can't operate like human beings in normal society. You shouldn't, or at least I don't, feel sympathy for someone that would probably not think twice of raping and or killing someone close to you, the very first chance they could. Though, I personally don't think it's anyone's place to say whether a person should die or live, the better alternative would be life in prison, in my opinion.
People do kill people with guns, but if someone really intends to kill someone with a gun, not having a gun won't stop them, they would find another way. You can't think of a gun as an "off switch" for human life, it takes much more then a gun and a person to kill someone. It takes a certain mindset and motive, which could be many reasons, not just vengeance, whether it be in defense or murder.

I think a lot of this might simply because they have not seen the other side of their aggressiveness.

Europeans have seen the bad side of war much moreso than the Americans. Yes, they participated in WW2, but it was never (with a few minor exceptions) on their own soil. They have not seen their people tortured, raped and kill en masse. They have not had their crops burned, their livestock slaughtered and their children gang-pressed into service.

Japan, perhaps the country in the world with the most justification to make nuclear weaponry, swore them off because of the horrors witnessed firsthand. Perhaps the USA would do much of the same if their people were slaughtered and lands destroyed.

Or then again they would probably just nuke those responsible.

Surely you didn't think the "Hippies" died off! Many of them just changed their minds on numerous issues.
Oh, I think I'm in love!

No, really, I think that this is something the younger generation plain doesn't get most days.

Not true, a gun is a cowards way of killing someone, without a gun the would be killer has to put themselves in mortal danger which would mean they would think twice.

Heat of the moment type killings would drop dramatically.

There are passive-aggressive ways of murder: Poisoning. Gaining a group and jumping them. Drugging then stabbing like crazy. Even having a long knife or sword while the other person does not inspires "courage".

As long as we do not get to the point where everything is "turn the other cheek". Which seems to be what certain factions of people want. There is a time and place for everything, although in recent history we have taken things to extremes. Every now and then, people need a good ass kicking. I am not changing my attitude, I am going to call a spade a spade, and if I offend someones pride in the process, oh well, get some thicker skin.

To be quite honest, over the last decade or so, I think the American people are becoming more and more passivists. We, to some extents have lost the "Don't tread on me" attitude, until some disaster happens and then the people come together, then after it is done, we are right back to stabbing each other in the back. Or, we the American people demand action on something, and then turn around and complain about the method in which it is done.

Well said.

Yes and No. There is strength in numbers "flash mobs" so to speak and sometimes the single man wielding the gun has the open hand. I am sorry, I own several guns and I have a license to carry. Being a husband and a father I am the first line of defense against the world. Now a stable mind will defuse most situations but there are those instances that it will not. Harsh words or threats will not protect your family from the predators of this world. If you believe that it please tell me what planet you live on.

Remember God didn't make all men equal..Winchester did.
