Why do you think America's Funniest Videos is so popular! This video falls in that category. In my opinion.

many of those incidents are accidents..on AFV ..What got to me in this video is the blatant kicking away of the mattress.

I don't find Americas funniest home videos that funny either..but to each there own.

Haha, wow, you're a funny one, ain't ya? This is funny. Hilarious even. Why? Because this is the same stuff I did as a kid with my friends. We did things like this to each other barring possible serious injury. Why? Hell, we don't know. It was funny. And it's was usually expected. I still do this with my friends. Sure, we may be hurt at the time. But it's still hilarious. Even when I'm the one hurt. It's not about being sick in the head. It's just the way things are. It's been like that for as long as I can remember. But then again, I'm what most people would consider a "redneck". Excuse me if I'm not "refined" like you city folk. Seems like some people didn't get to enjoy the fruits of being a kid.

You might call it fruits of being a kid...I call it sadistic... but then some enjoy sadistic..

Where did you grow up? And I assume you're female. Yeah, pretty sure you wouldn't understand.

Nah man, no need to describe yourself as such - us suburbanites did it too...I remember one game we played inside the garage - a stack of shelves was the "goal" - the "goalie" had a cheap plastic football helmet with two shoelaces tied between the helmet and mask to protect the goalies face...he also had two couch pillows and a spare hocky stick that he could randomly attack the shooter with - for no reason. The shooter just had a hockey stick and a tennis ball. From about ten feet away he'd try to score and "scrums" were fair. My sister played too...inside games the same were invented..."claustrophobia" where a kid gets head first in a sleeping bag, slides down the stairs and is stacked up against the wall causing, "claustrophobia" - a couple kids were handlers who would rush in and save the panic stricken kid...and then there were the home made jumps, on asphalt, with our bikes - jousting competitions with the tall orange flags on bikes...ah, jumping off cliffs, shooting pop bottle rockets in close combat, sheesh, this is just a scratch on the surface...we played a non pc game called "smear the queer" where you threw the fooball up and whoever caught it doged 10 kids until they were "smeared"...and the list goes on...

I chuckled just at your post. In my mind, I think Wyn would think it was funny too...especially the farting part.

Looking close it appears that the mattresses are airbeds. Those would be easy to kick out of the way.
--------------------
Anyway, back to the OP's original point which was *why* do people find this funny:

I don't find the video funny because I don't know if the kids is ok at the end. *If* the video were a few seconds longer and showed the kid in question getting up, or rolling over and laughing, then I would think it was funny. Simple hijinks, "Hey watch me" set up, did similar things in my youth, indignant landing, ok in the end = funny.

I have two kids of my own that have pulled some real doozies. One time they removed the mattress from my younger child's toddler bed and used it as a sled down the stairs right as our church's missionaries came to the door - darn near knocked them over! Once it was obvious no one was hurt then it was VERY funny. I doubt those missionaries will ever have kids!
Had a child, or children, been hurt, it wouldn't have been funny - it would have been an immediate drive to urgent care.

I suppose those who find "Jackass" funny will appreciate this. I just find it dumb.
I'll bet they were drinking. People get pretty stupid when they have a buzz on.

I think farting is funny.....and that video was hilarious

Sorry..but I don't think people intentionally kicking a mattress out of the way of someone who is doing a full belly flop is funny.

I guess its good that we are all not the same .. hopefully those who dish out that kind of humor ..can take it as well.

That actually did happen to me once
tho not exactly the same way but something similar. Obviously AT that time it wasn't funny and I was mad as hell. But years later it's worth to look back on and laugh.

I just depends on the persons perspective.

Just because it is still the ultimately most silly thing for my boys farting is still hilarious - no need to feel bad about it. I have been crying, literally, at my sons farting on each other and screaming in disgust/laughter - it is also their last resort against tickle attacks - the only thing that can effectively stop them.

Did you ever do something like that? I did. It made me feel bad because my buddy was upset - I don't know I was maybe 5 at the time...kids DO this - NO MATTER WHAT - do we ream them for it or give em a heads up how stupid it is and let them LEARN?

...before i moved here to take care of my mom, i took care of another lady who had alzheimers... on the first day with her, after giving her a bath, i was on my knees behind her drying the backside of her legs and she farted so big i felt my hair fluff and then she said "better out than in" and that was it - i was a gonner...

I know this was not directed at me... But for what it is worth, I wouldn't laugh in the situation you provide.

My first instinct would be to check on them and make sure they are alright....

You missed out "and then I'd chuckle a bit"....

You can put words in my mouth..... Yeah... Don't do that.Alright? Alright.

Look, everyone does crazy stuff as a kid. I sure did.... So do the kids in my life. I am not coddling them but I do check on them to make sure they are not hurt as well....

If they are fine, I may tease them a little and tell them to be more careful next time...

But I am not just going to stand there and "chuckle a bit" when my kid is lying on the ground in pain, such as with the scenario you were presented, by gabby.

Of course not. But you do agree that when the little dude and dudettes figure it out for themselves (normal kid fighting - which is normal), it helps them more than when we tell them? There are times for me when I have to hold myself back and allow it to happen - that after telling them 1000 times is the only way...

Your answer lies in my last response.

Yeah, I will check on my kids when they are hurt... Not chuckle... as some seem to want to do...

When my child is hurt, I don't find it funny and I will check on them.

If they are not hurt, then they get up, brush them selves off and learn a lesson....

Simple as that.
