India certainly has the potential. Infact India has alredy set a deadline of 2020 to be a fully developed nation.

But to me, that remains an illusion. Be it 2020 , 2050, or 200050 India will continue to struggle.Indians lack the confidence and the bullish approach.
Inidans are too mellowed down and will succum to everything and anything with more impetius to emotion than functionality.

There also talk of declaring India a "Hindu nation" on the lines of Israel.

India is plagued by terrorism sponsered by Pakistan, communal violence, poverty, illitracy and uneployment and will continue to do so...

It brigns tears to my eyes but India is the Laughing Stock of the world.

Their only hope is to remove the caste system. This will provide a larger population of useful people. As of now, the untouchables are the majority of India's population and they can't even serve in the military. However, to recover from the caste system and to re-educate/educate all those untouchables and even the poor (the class right above the untouchables, forgot what they're called) would take a considerable amount of time and would probably lag India behind from achieving superpower status by up to 100 years even (considering the people/generations of people that need to be educated, the technological catch-up, and so forth).

You ignorant person, the caste system in India was banned at the time of independence in 1947. So much for "deny ignorance"...........

I was only backing up India. Guess India's just a bunch of losers then, eh?

And what do you mean deny ignorance? You expect every one of us to be Indian history researchers?

It's alright to be patriotic about your country but you need to face the truth. India will not top the US, China, or the EU by 2030 or even 2050. The country is loaded with problems including constant terrorist attacks (similar situation with Israel), you guys make no attempts at making your own technology but rather buy your tech from other nations (thus limiting the nation's development because there's no way an F-22 is going to be shipped to India until it becomes outdated), the poverty and living conditions in India are equal to that of underdeveloped African nations...but heck, ultimately most Westerners classify India as a 3rd world country, nuff said. The fact that Westeners do not visit India is enough to say that they aren't as developde as other nations.

Thus, they're still playing catch-up right now and probably will still be playing catch-up by 2050. You can brag about the economy although it's really not that great. Kerry is also hoping to lower outsourcing anyway.

Bottom line is you're still playing catch-up. You've been playing catch-up since the British gave you independance and you're still playing catch-up now. Sorry if this sounds one-sided, but it's the pure and simple truth which you fail to realize.

Sure India will improve by 2030 but they'll still be playing catch-up if their current situation persists.

Insanity breeds insanity we need to be invaded by ET's mates as that is the only scenario that will unite the world. good old Ronald Reagan I think he mentioned something about this in a speech.

Agreed. The world needs something to unite us instead of dividing, selfish power-struggles.

No one knows what's going to happen. We can make all of the informed and uniformed predictions we can think of and we still will not know until we are there.

Maybe old Ronnie was on to something?

With all the new rising superpowers (China and India) and Russia starting to get back on its feet, the US (the CIA in particular) is beginning to realize that there are potential threats becoming present.

Keep in mind that by 2030 that a most of today's superpowers will have 5th generation aircraft (US JSF, China XXJ, Russia MFI, India MCA).

So I'm just curious, that by 2030 who do you all think will rank at the top superpowers list? Here's my list anyway (take everything into consideration whether it be military power, economic strength, and so forth):

1. US
2. China
3. EU
4. Russia
5. Israel
6. India

So what does everyone else think?

Where'd you get the information for this list? China be a #2 superpower in the world community? I predict that there will be a civil war in China before the year 2015, that will destroy destroy any little progress that she's made in the last 20 years!
People there aren't going to take it forever. In 11 years, the young people there will be adults looking at the progress of the Western civilization and will yearn for a piece of it.
I don't see their government in power for another 26 years.

the only possibility for china to be involved in a war is the "Taiwan issue",
which in fact, will be a war between china and US. if such war broke out,the chinesemainland, taiwan and the US will all be loser,so I really hope the US will stop its support to the splittism in Taiwan.
but if u think there will be a civil war because the poeple want to overthrown the CCP government,u're terribly wrong.democray certainly will be establish in china someday(and seemingly not so far way),and the CCP may lose power, but it is unlikely there will to be a civil war.after all, nobody want a war, especially a civil war.

I think China is going to be a democracy eventually, but do you remember Tiennaman Square?

Ask any Boeing or Airbus engineer who theit biggest competitor is and each will say the other. Ask which will be the biggest competitor in 20 years, and they will say EMBRAER.

It's the fifth largest country in the world; a small population but a well educated one on the whole.

Their aerospace industry is making inroads here in the United States against organizationsl like LockMart, they have a space program which will probably launch a satellite within a year or so.

If there is a worldwide economic downturn, they stand to advance substantially, and I believe that -- not by 2030, but by 2075 -- one of the five world superpowers will be speaking Portuguese -- and it ain't gonna be Portugal.

Ordem e Progreso.

china began its reform since 1978,I guess that's part of the reason why the CCP power survived in1989.the condition of chinese people has improved greatly since then, and is likely to improve further.so everyone wants the political environment to be stable.that's why I think it is unlikely
that the CCP be overthrown recently.
Democracy must be founded on the basis of a legal system and well educated people, otherwise it will only become another type of dictatorship, and will caz lots of problems.
china is forming a legal system,(may sounds ridiculous, but I heard that in 1978,there were only 3 laws in china)and people of our generation is much better educated, have a better understanding democracy. so I think china is going to be a democracy, and it won't take to long time.

Depends on how well we "win" the war against islamofascist. I see too much American complacency, spoiled people who want everything cheap but aren't willing to do anything (like fight a war or two) to keep their level of dominance. Let's face it, since we don't have a draft of ANY kind, that means people never learn anything about fighting and war. They think everything that this country has just "appears" and we should never shed any blood...or they believe that killing people or curtailing anyone's civil liberties is out of the question. We can't wage a televised war, so we have to fight with our hands behind our backs. This is not possible to do with so many "peaceniks" protesting every move.

Basically, I think if we pull out of Iraq, we have sealed our fate. The Islamists (whatever coalition of countries they can come up with) and the Chinese who will not tolerate their crap, will be the two fighting sides. I'm not sure what will happen to us....it all comes down to winning the terror war and the Iraq war. There are few peaceniks once it's YOUR town that is attacked, and even fewer atheist in a foxhole, so as long as the terrorists target someplace important to California, we stand a chance, but if we keep on the same trajectory we are going to lose.

I love the US and I don't want to see the US lose in Iraq. The Kurds will be slaughtered and the terrorists will reign in yet another Islamist country. Better that we stay and win, otherwise the question becomes moot, because we may not exist, or might have a complete breakdown of the country if the terrorists begin to accomplish their goal. They will start with France and Spain, but they won't stop here. They have already said the th USA was founded by Muslims, so I guess they want to claim our land too. Sound familiar?
