So here's more, this was uploaded a couple of days ago, but the footage is from May. I didn't know we lived in a binary star system and I really don't think the first bright object to appear in this video is the Moon. The Sun comes up right after this. This footage is from the CFH infrared/optical observatory on the Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii.

Looks like a sun dog - a common phenomena especially visible around sunrise or sunset

sorry - I misinterpreted the video - I thought you were refering to the aroow-shaped light-artifact off to the right of the screen as the bright white object came up - not the object itself.

This really doesn't look like a plane to me, but I'm always wrong.

I doubt that you're always wrong mate, perhaps not even this time.

But you did ask what we thought it was, we don't actually *know* what it is for certain, just what we think it probably is.

You think what you like mate, don't let me or anyone else change that. Seriously, i mean that.

If you think it's something odd, good for you. Could be...but what i think is causing it to look like a sphere, is the glare of a low sun against a jet airliners body, a bit like a glint on a car roof will distort the shape of the roof for a moment when the light hits it right.

But, what do you think it is though?

I'd hate to speculate, but at first sight and since it was released lately, I thought it could very well be the infamous winged planet. But once I saw other footage of the meteor of Peru, I figured it's the same thing due to the contrails looking exactly the same (gradient color and speed wise) except from a different angle. I guess I'm not certain if it was a plane or a meteor, but it seems to be moving way too slow to be a meteor, so a plane sounds like the most feasible explanation. Your explanation for why this looks almost spherical is as good as anything I've heard yet! Thanks!

to me it looks like a very bright reflection of the sun from a plane - no you don't see a fuselage & wings because the glint is far too bright and hides them.

I agree that it is reflection off an aircraft. I've seen hundreds of them as an aviation photographer.Spectacular to witness and can understand how people can be fooled by them. Some airlines have highly reflective paint schemes.

Some examples.

Probably the most infamous case of a sunlit contrail and reflection causing confusion was the Californian 'Missile' scare last year. At one point a reflection could be seen at the head of the contrail. Many people misinterpreted it as evidence of a rocket plume.
