Hi, I recently noticed that nearly all the girls at school have truck loads of make-up on (like a second face) they look disgusting. They put so much foundation on that they look like Umpa-Lumpas!
even I don't wear make-up!

It gives you spots, and makes you look like a trollop... (sorry about my language but it is seriously annoying!)

I know you'd say its a phase or something but its not! even the teachers tell them to wipe it off , they wipe it off then put it back on in break-times...
What's your opinion?

because most girls are actually pretty ugly without the make-up, i have seen alot of them with and without, they clearly look better with it on. if they know how to put it on that is, maybe at your age they are just learning so it will be a mess.

Because some need it.

They don't need makeup, they think they need makeup.

Its nothing more than an ancient tribal ritual that goes back to the dawn of mankind that is still practiced today.

Tattoos, piercings and many other types of body modification also fall into this tribal ritual. Hair styling too.

We think its just a modern form of expression but im reality it is something that is.more deeply imbedded in us than we think.

I can say that I still hate make-up whatever people say, because it shows what you want to be.
also thanks for your comments!

Because as long as we are unsure of ourselves...people make money. Never liked the stuff myself and prefer being seen without a mask on. Plus girls who wear too much makeup smell like crayons. Lucky for me I was blessed with good genetics and dont need to compensate.

Best not to wear any really. In the end it messes your skin up so that you actually need to wear it.

i think the women of today get told they need makeup.

look at the media, commercials, everything ... they get told they cant look good without ...

so they assume more = better = more beautiful ...

low selfesteem

Because the vast majority of guys only want 9s and 10s, and if you can't get that, they won't give you the time of day except as a one-night stand that they will deny later. This kind of thing will only change when we develop a culture that decouples the value of women from how they are perceived by men.

Sadly, women's lib only made it okay for women to embrace their masculine side, not for women to express that traditionally feminine traits are every bit as important to society as masculine ones and should be valued just as much.

To answer the question....

Some girls are ugly and makeup can help overcome some of the shortcomings.

The rest are insecure.

No the system built around vanity is not the catalyst for it. This is something we have been doing for longer than there have been corporations and media. A unique style is something we have always strived for since we have lived in societies.

Men have always wanted nines and tens, you think 200 years ago we didn't care? Back then however, if you came from a rural community you didn't have much choice, marry fast or live alone. No offspring meant you couldn't build a generational farm or family business, things that were paramount to the expansion of societies.

Back then every hole was a goal. Haha

Had to say it.

Of course men did. On the other hand, men probably didn't have a bunch of tabloids telling them that only one type of woman is a 9 or a 10. They also probably had to have a few more considerations when choosing a woman to woo other than just looks (unlike nowadays), considering that such things were mostly done in search of a wife rather than just a long-term bootycall.

I am a 56 year old grandma and I wore more make-up
as a teen then as an adult.
I was wearing the colors of lipsticks that were considered
ghastly,blue and gold.
I was not supposed to wear make-up until my sweet 16th.
I did not listen and sneaked behind my dad's back and wore
what I wanted.
One day,I forgot to wash my face before my dad saw me.He
grabbed me by the scruff of my neck and scrubbed my face.
Young girls' really don't need to wear a lot of make-up.All they
need is a good foundation, light powder and lipgloss,if that.

The cosmetic/fashion industry tells women they need it to look beautiful. Yeah, it's a crock, but obviously women are buying into it.

I have never worn much more than eye liner. I never understood how men could find that "mask" of cover up attractive. Plus, they get make up stains on collars, shirts. What a pain in the butt!

Hey, come on. Some girls need to cover up that pizza face, right? If they didn't, I'm sure they would induce vomit from even the blind. I've seen it. Some girls shouldn't even be allowed to leave their domicile without at least two layers of make up. Things that nightmares are made of.

No but to say our desire for a chance to hit it with a 10 has ever faltered throughout human history would be a lie.

And im sure there were vein people people at any stage in human history that created social competitions in the looks dept.

The way humans conduct themselves in society has NEVER changed. Only the means.
