For protesting the Tar Sands pipeline:

The nation’s top climate scientist was arrested today protesting the tar sands pipeline. Back in June, he famously wrote, “Exploitation of tar sands would make it implausible to stabilize climate and avoid disastrous global climate impacts.”

For those of you that don't know - here's what the Tar Sands look like:

Sure it recklessly destroys the environment and pollutes our rivers, but it creates JOBS people!!

James Hansen is the alarmist responsible for perpetrating the Global Warming scam on us when he testified before Congress in 1988 that man made emissions were increasing the Earth's Greenhouse effect - even though we're just emerging from an ice age, it's actually cooling, all the other planets in the solar system are heating up, one volcano releases more CO2 than humans ever have, carbon is only 0.0000000001% of the atmosphere, and it's the air we breathe, and it's good for plants.

So as you can see from this latest turn of events clearly this man is in it for the money, and he has an agenda against honest, hard-working oil companies, and the reason that 97% of climate scientists say man made global warming is real is because they all get funded by the global government who want to enslave us by putting a price on carbon and forcing consumers to stop wasting energy like total suckers and buy solar panels instead - which are just part of the liberal agenda to make my roof look stupid.

Thankfully though their jig is up and the house of cards is collapsing and this is going to be the final nail in the coffin of the global warming scam.

Also in case anyone just thinks I'm being sarcastic - here's more proof of what a total criminal this man is.

Did you know that he's also firmly against cap and trade??

See: "Cap and Fade" NY Times Op-Ed by James Hansen

In that article he writes that we should implement a "fee and dividend" solution instead, where the government taxes big carbon polluting industries like BP and Exxon and then gives the money directly back to us the consumer so we can spend it on better alternatives.

That's WEALTH REDISTRUBUTION!!!

What a commie scumbag.

Sometimes you do what your heart says is right - I was arrested in a protest in Nebraska after the National guard fired on the students at Kent state, my father would not speak to me for years - but I did the right thing. So did this guy.

Cant believe you would really say this --

"Sure it recklessly destroys the environment and pollutes our rivers, but it creates JOBS people!! "

My bet is you never even heard of the Cuyahoga river -- thats what it was like before the country decide it should manage things better -- How about Love Canal ever heard of that -- it made jobs too.

Fool you have no idea what you are talking about

Wait a minute I see what you did there -- got me Flag On

I'd like to also note that a minute ago this thread had 2 flags, but now it has 1 - surely because some knee-jerk reacting sensationalist read the headline and automatically flagged the thread without any need to read the actual content.

I love this new unflagging system ATS - really says a lot about the attention span of your audience

As someone that lives in Alberta, I openly protest the tar sands. Of course they produce jobs, but, if we put money into renewable energy that would produce jobs as well.

The tar sands are a very dirty way to get our energy and just proves that we have yet to advance past the point of burring ancient carbon for our energy needs. They need to stop susidizing oil companies and invest in the future, renewable energy.

Pred...

For sure
But according to most of ATS he's just a criminal who's towing Al Gore's company line and he has no integrity and blah blah anyone who believes this stuff is dumb and global warming is a religion and not a science

So it's ok for power and oil companies to destroy our environment? I like having clean water and good air to breathe. Yes the carbon tax is BS but if it forces these destroyers of nature to stop dumping their pollution into the environment then it's a good thing.

Personally it looks like grand standing to me. Al Gore and the globalists are running out of steam and need some way to get this heated up. What better way than to use a Global scientists now they will talk about this for days on MSM. He has already proven his track record on being wrong. Why would he be right now?

Probably arrested for the same reasons the other 140 people were - for having the audacity to speak out against the system and piss off some very powerful people who don't like what he has to say

LOL no worries
Just making a statement on how I happen to know certain people will react to this news - the kind that take whatever FOX News says as the gospel truth

So was this you intention? To create a misleading title and commentary until the end of your post just to see if people would flag and star your post.

The pipeline creating Jobs does not justify the destruction of an ecosystem. I am more than willing to admit that there is a lot of fear mongering in the global warming debate. But that does not make this pseudoscience.

We are so egotistical to think that since we are the dominate life form we can do whatever we want to the planet. This is stupid, irresponsible, and wrong.

The fact that this man was arrested for a non-violent protest is absurd.

which are just part of the liberal agenda to make my roof look stupid.

Lol now that is the funniest conspiracy I have heard in a while S+F just for that.

We do not need the kind of jobs the Keystone Pipeline would bring; especially if you look at how little is cleaned up afterwards. We need jobs that will not kill the very land itself.

It takes 3 gallons of water, plus what other chemical crap they put into it, to move and or get 1 gallon of tar sand out. That's 3 gallons of water that will not be drinkable or usable for growing plants.

In those pictures you posted, go you see any life living there? Do you foresee any farms or forests there ever again?

M.

As a supporter you might want to know.

Ron Paul is not really big on that environmental stuff -- he feels that the most cost effective way to deal with it is "free market" polluters will be sued and that added cost will make them stop.

In some alternative universe perhaps.

Would seem anyone who understands and cares about the environment would protests that leprosy on the landscape.
As for climate change... well of course it does and I'm hoping people will realise en mass that scams come in many forms including Global Warming and Climate Change. Only have to see who will make a fortune out of the public guilt contributing to their companies and bank accounts.

I know his policy about the environment and how he wants to get rid of the EPA. Which would be a big mistake imo. Just because I support him doesn't mean I support 100% of his policies.

Agreed.

I am NOT a believer in man made GW.

But.

I am also a believer in taking care of what we have.

If these folks are dumping "trash" into otherwise clean water ways, they should be hung up with short piano wires from tall lamp posts. We know that coal plants are now vastly cleaner than they were and thats good.

you dont crap where you fish and drink. camping 101.

If they can clean the "leftovers"" before turning them back to the water supplies, I'm all for it. I look at it like nuke energy. If you can do it cleanly AND safely, rock on.

This dude being a GW scientist doesnt give him anymore creditably. Likely there for political points.

Lol he was sarcastic about the entire article, glad you finally caught on at least that part of it.

Proof for that he was sarcastic can be seen at many places, among where he says that the global temperature has actually gone down the last few years, which can clearly be verified to be wrong by looking at this chart over the global temperature averages for the last 100 years. Note the increase since the start of the industrial age, where coal burning and oil where used in greater quantities than ever before. en.wikipedia.org...:Instrumental_Temperature_Record_(NASA).svg
