The United States will stop all financial aid to the Palestinian Authority if they proceed with plans to ask the United Nations for recognition of an independent state in September, a U.S. official warned Friday.

U.S. Consul General in Jerusalem, Daniel Rubinstein, told chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat in the name of the Obama administration, that the U.S. would veto a UN Security Council resolution calling for recognition of an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip within the June 4, 1967 borders and for UN membership.

If they want to be an independent state why would they complain if the us offers to let them be independent? I'm just sayin if your getting money from the us your not independent. Your more like one of our dependents. I could be wrong tho.

We should stop all foreign aid to all nations. We can not afford to keep giving away what little money we have.

The only thing new is that Washington doesn't seem to care anymore about showing who really controls the US Government, that's Israel........

As for the US using their BS veto vote, that would just show the world what many already know, the US Government is NOT interested in democracy..
It's their (Israel's) way or the highway...

Nearly all "aid" never reaches the Palestinians anyway as Israel doesn't allow it to.

Even things build with aid from, say, Europe for instance for building and infrastructure is pointless as Israel bombs whatever is built. That, by the way, the deliberate bombing of civilian infrastructure, is also against international law!

So, did anyone really think the reaction of the Israeli occupied US government would be any different?
The US leadership bends over backwards to crawl to Israel, and while US families and veterans sleep on the streets, the US money to Israel keeps flowing. Makes it quite clear who the politicians are loyal to.... and it isn't America or it's people.

Seriously, they should rename the US congress as the US Knesset and get it over with.

Given the oil/gas finds off the Gazan coast that has been found and ownership successfully defended in international courts, the future Palestinian state has a sought-after resource that can be tapped and exported in exchange for aid/reconstruction assistance.

So, could this really be a wrangle over who gets the preferential contract to extract in return fo state recognition?

Don't really care if they join the Un or not, all these big checks to other countries are going to have to stop anyway.

Bingo! If I remember correctly, Israel has already been claiming it belongs to them already, as well as deposits that stretch into Lebanese waters too. God really must hate them so much the way he gives all the assets to those pesky non-Israelis making them have to go steal it.

You'd also think that someone using the name "Sonofliberty1776" would understand and respect the aspirations of others to self determination and liberty from an occupying power!

wasn't Obama the one who said," We could have a Palestinian State by this time next year..." in September 2010 i think while he was holding a confrence with the Muslim Brotherhood! Then tells Israel they need to sign a peace treaty by the end of September 2011.. Im not buying it... go read Revelations 7yrs of false peace.

I understand you people have a very hard time treating world wide politics without emotions and self made morals getting in the way, so this is the very little help I can offer:

The US (and Israel for that matter) want the Palestinians to have a functional government before they declare independent and form a legit state. In reality, postponing the UN bid for statehood only helps the Palestinians in turning into a country.
For example - Last weeks there was a cease fire between Gaza and Israel that could not hold grounds due to the fact Hamas (closest there is to a ruling factor in Gaza) could not control "it's" people from shooting rockets at Israel despite the cease fire. Whether it was it's own people or people from little unknown different organizations, it does not matter. The fact of the matter is that nobody is able to control the population in Gaza at the moment.

Now, would it seem logical in your eyes to give the Palestinians independent status and as a state while this mess is going on back there? Hint: when they are declared as an independent country and cannot hold their people from shooting at Israel, they will be punished severely, as it will not be considered a shooting by a terror force like it is currently, it will be considered an act of war by an independent nation. They will be dealt with not by using smart/precision bombs, but with heavy carpet bombings that will make the last years look like a joke compared to what they will suffer.
Or, in other words, an all out war. - And if anyone had any doubts, Israeli air force holds enough firepower to completely demolish every inch of the Gaza strip in about 10 bombing runs which will take less than several hours. So far it did not happen because there was no need to destroy the entire strip, but if an independent country fires at us be sure that this is what will happen.

That is not a scenario that Israel or the west wishes (and I'm sure none of you want it aswell), so it is rather obvious the better option is to let the situation in Gaza turn more stable for them to have a strong leadership that can control it's people.

But of course, you guys cannot even begin to think logically and only use your emotions in issues like these, so the answers we get are much less constructive than the above claims.
Example of common answers for this issue: "US uses their stupid veto powers to hold back the Palestinian oppressed people!!!" - "Israel controls the US and does what it wants!!" - "Western leaders don't give a damn about the Palestinians!!!". You know, the usual Boo hoo everyone is against us and I can't see why!!!
