I think no level of "abundance" is enough to satisfy the human greed.

There already is an abundance of resources and there is not a utopia. A utopia requires individual, willing participation and sense of responsibility and also an organization of collective priorities to collectively work for those priorities and that's why there is not a utopia.

You don't think there is an abundance of resources? Necessities include food, water, and shelter. Once the necessities are equally distributed in accordance with one's needs, there will be room for cultivating not so necessary resources.

Food, water, and shelter are all that is needed and they are in abundance. Shelter can be made from mostly wood. Food comes from the ground and is constantly growing and reproducing as wood. And water covers 75% of the Earth in an unfathomable amount.

Considering our progression of technological advancement, there will, in the near future, be resources harvestable from other planets. Regardless of that, there is at this time, plenty of resources to fulfill our needs, and probably enough to fulfill our foolish desires.

Yet there is no utopia. Why?

Because we operate in accordance with specific government and economic structures that do not allow for such an ideal. There is socialism which is ideal, but it gets abused because the rules are enforced by military. For socialism to work ideally, there would have to be no need for a military. Due to the current state of affairs as being highly conflictive, the worldwide military presence is ever-present and is also employed by the same governments that have the power to enforce their own private agendas. These private agendas are exactly what diminishes the possibility of a government-economic system such as socialism to work effectively in accordance with the ideal.

The private agendas are just the agenda for power and control, mainly. But power and control are products of the imbalanced desire for material "goods".

No. Even without greed there are other sins possible. Utopia would require a zero tolerance policy to evil.

Talking and thinking about this caused Christiania to come to mind..I saw a show on it once on PBS. It started with the right intentions I think, but has had to fight to survive, which rather defeats it's utopian aim.

At any rate,I sure would love to visit!

A truly Utopian world..Honestly,I think that if we shared a collective consciousness, all did more with less and genuinely cared for and about each other,it would be a huge step in that direction. But,there are an awful lot of people out there that hurt others just for kicks. Not every criminal or thug etc. has a reason like poverty etc.

It is a beautiful thought tho,to be sure. I'd be down for it.

The US has 300 million people, but it hasn't really grown that much compared to other countries. The main reason it's grown at all is immigration - the white and black people in America are declining in numbers just like the populations in Europe.

I don't really think some people are 'just evil', I think they are uneducated, propagandized to think being mean is cool, which is the fault of the powers that be and pop media.

These utopia's you guys are talking about sound very much like the New World Order.

To stop the wars, you have to kill a few billion people and do more killing than any war in history.

To stop greed, you have to put people in re-education camps and basically torture them until they actually believe what the people running the world will be.

And foremost, there must be nowhere to run too, the entire world must be united in doing this and all opposition must be re-educated or eliminated, and that goes for every new generation.

The only way parents will allow their children to be killed for not being in the system, is if the parent/child bond is removed at birth. Which of course is exactly where we are heading.

This plan may work for a while, but like all these mass experiments in government they always end in tragedy on a grand scale, regardless of where they are aimed.

If we ever did get a Utopia it would be seized by psychopaths the way it always has been.

Interesting site for ya; www.census.gov...

We have willingly ridden on the 'desensitize me' carousel. We are all but immune to every conceivable horror, unless of course any of it happens to us personally,or directly effects us or our lives. Is it any wonder talk of things like a utopian world elicit little more than a scoff and chuckle? You're right-We can't get there from here.

As for the whole 'immigration is the reason for US population growth' thing? This country, from it's beginnings, consists of nothing more than immigrants, seeing as everyone here, with the exception of the Native Tribal Nations, came here from somewhere else or are descendant from said people. Mexicans were only 'aliens' after the lines were drawn in the dirt and on maps as we plowed our way across the continent taking what we wanted and pushing anyone who opposed us out of the way. This country was built from a sense of entitlement.

As long as we continue to oppose each other at every turn and in every aspect, particularly in the sharing of ideas,we will truly never reach Utopia.

And BTW? this info from the Census site?

U.S. 312,080,436
World 6,958,223,476
16:21 UTC (EST+5) Aug 27, 2011

That's not allowing for all the people who don't fill out or participate in data gathering/live off grid(in search of their own ideal of personal utopias) etc and are not accounted for..

The sad thing is, there are enough resources and fundamentals to create a utopia..but the ones running the show would never allow that to happen. They want the planet..but we can't allow that to happen, it's time we "plan it" haha
