I didn't know where to put this, so it is here. If mods feel the need to move it, then go ahead.

Normally I pass this type of story up and just accept that there are some pretty messed up people out there. But, this particular story hit close to my heart. I have a 6 year old son who is in the care of his grandmother. I pay child support each month voluntarily and see him on regular, scheduled visits.

I could not imagine ANY parent trying to do this sort of thing.

A Florida mom with an alleged prescription drug addiction was accused by police of trying to sell her 5-year-old son for $2,000.

This is unimaginable. If my son was ever put in that position by me, his mother or anyone else, I would pray to whatever God exists that said person receive the MAXIMUM sentence possible.

No, and most sober minded or right minded parents wouldn’t even ever consider selling his/her child.

Your question is just absurd…that’s my opinion.

Sad to say but if I was in that much of a desperate financial state, yes I would. I wouldn't "Sell" the child I would put him in foster care or give him to a relative.

You say the question is absurd. But, how many absurdities do we here about on a regular basis these days? The world has gone insane and it doesn't take JUST a doped up mother to prove that.

That much I understand. I have had to let my son go because I could not adequately care for him. But, to hear of a parent offering to "Sell" their child for a sum of money just to pay for drugs is absolutely sickening.

I don’t disagree with your ideology but I do disagree with the title of this thread , which you asked a question. Cus like I already said you know it wouldn’t be an option for 99.9% of people (at least I hope/believe so).

You cant blame the woman, noone wants to get hooked on drugs,it just happens sometimes,i often tell people if you try a drug once youve tried it a thousand times.People will go to extremes to satisfy their addiction, these means are usually wrong or unlawful but when you're jonesing nothing really matters except the next pill or the next hit..

I can't imagine anyone hurting their child either or murdering them but it happens.

Never sell your kids. If you cant afford to take care of them find a nice family or relative for them to live with untill you can get things worked out. The real question is how many people would buy a child with good intentions?

I might pay someone to take my child if I thought I had some demon spawn. You know like the kid that chopped granny up with the sword or Lizzie Bordon or something.

I don't have demon spawn though. Just an imp, and I rather like him, he keeps me laughing.

Well it's a pretty open ended question. I mean some will and some won't..
I tried to sell both of my boys but they were 18 and 19 yrs old and I waited too long.

The lady did however rent me instead

I remember as a child, my mother was a heavy drug addict but, even she never tried to do anything this grotesque. The only portion of the story that I find relieving is that fact that the guy she tried to sell the child to informed authorities and she was taken to jail. Just too bad our jails are full of small time criminals instead of the people who deserve it like this woman.

There is NO amount of money I would ever consider selling my children for. I love my children and if I could not take care of them for some reason I would give them to someone who could. It is sad the lengths some people are will to go to get their fix when addicted to drugs. I feel sorry for the child and thankful that the guy she tried to sell the child to called authorities.

Mr. Toodles you're overlooking the fact that this is a really troubled person who is not well functioning. This does not excuse their action. It points to why they would do such a thing.

I think some people should arrange for others to take over responsibility of their children, going by news stories of those who are not being taken care of, fed, loved, and receiving proper parenting. There are a lot of people having children that don't want the responsibility and/or don't have the skills to raise a child.

Meanwhile there are always couples who would love the opportunity to give a child a loving home. Some are young, some are old, some have children and some have none. But what matters is the have the love and the will, and they would do what it takes to raise the child well.

So selling children, I don't know about that. But making sure children are with people who are providing proper parenting and what the little ones need - that is way overdue.

I have not overlooked anything. I have no sympathy for this woman. I do agree with those who choose to willingly give up rights to their children in order for that child to have a better life than what they can provide. However, I will NEVER show sympathy for cases like this that involve drugs or anything similar.

All growing up and even as an adult, I and MOST people in the States these days have to deal with the constant pressure to drink or do a drug or pop a pill. Big pharma can take PART of the blame, yes. But, the rest lies on the shoulders of the person poppin' the pills. I have refused any substance that alters the state of consciousness of a person since I was a teenager. Since the pressure became real.

I am just a regular working class American and I have the will power to resist and therefore so should this woman and any other parent or parent-like figure for that matter.
