earthquake.usgs.gov...

This is very large for the area, in my experience of watching quakes.

Does anyone have a link to historic seismicity?

worth keeping an eye on.

I am not familiar with the area apart from a ski trip to Breckenridge several years ag. Location is:

15 km (9 miles) WSW of Trinidad, Colorado
33 km (20 miles) NW of Raton, New Mexico
54 km (33 miles) S of Walsenburg, Colorado
290 km (180 miles) S of DENVER, Colorado

Link for what?

This area in general or the region or the world in general?

Hope that is the extent of it.

According to USGS the largest earthquake ever in Colorado was a 6.6 in 1882 earthquake.usgs.gov... hope that helps a bit.

Here's an article that list some past events as well: www.aapg.org...

I lived in Taos NM. The Rio Grande Gorge runs right thru the area that is in question. There aren't many quakes there, thats true. But Calderas are everywhere from last centuries erruptions. And The Gorge is a failed Rift..

I check the quakes every other day and I will keep an eye on it too.

Thx for the tip..

Very normal for the earth in geological terms but not usual for those that live on the spot of the earthquake.

Not sure what you consider normal

Here's a 1998 map of faultlines in Colorado

www.cdphe.state.co.us...

Hey Berkleygal
still here.. still battling the aftershocks - it will be 1 year since our 7.1 nightmare at the weekend (4 Sept).. can you believe it? And last night mother nature decided to remind us she was still here with a rocking 4.3 nearby grrrrrrr....

Hugs to you, too.. hope this isn't going to escalate for Colorado.

I felt it!! I am about 100 miles north of the epicenter. I've lived in Colorado more than 25 years and this is the first one I've ever felt here!

Crazy!! 2nd biggest earthquake I've ever felt... 1st was a 6.5 in Taiwan.

So did you get the rolling S-wave action there? I know we get those when big ones 60km+ away over mag 5...

It's been a year already? Holy how time flies Batgirl!

I had seen the other two quakes when I got up from my "nap" at 10 pm. Am shocked at this 5.3. Hope this is an end and not a beginning.

Hang in there my friend

Damn this one was near Trinidad again. Might as well call this one in New Mexico. I'm in southern Colorado, but still quite a ways from there.. I didn't feel #e.

Yea I replied in a diff thread but my wife and I felt it right when she got home from work...was definitely a trip as it was my FIRST EQ experience...who would have thought it would be in Colorado...

Stuff in the house was shaking (not violently) but enough to make both my wife and I say ...WTF?
