imagine a well thought out intelligent post with 1 star
followed immediately by an obviously insulting, 3 word post, with 50 stars

I think this would be a pretty good time to inquire about this. See, with my previous experience with this site, I had no problems getting starred plenty; now, for some reason, stars seem to be very scarce - I'm lucky if I can get one single person to star a post of mine. And this seems to be way too consistent to just be my imagination.

Of course it's not a big deal, it's just something I've noticed. Anybody having similar issues?

Happens to me all the time, I just try to concentrate on my post.

like someone said before, the inane threads get a lot of stars and flags.

There isn't anything at the top of the post that reads "Flag it" where exactly should I look? I have scoured the front page of the post and I do not see those words.

I think you have to have a certain amount of posts first - 20, maybe? Then just click the "Flag It" button that you see in the upper left-hand corner (EDIT: Or lower left, whatever), right next to where it displays the number of flags.

Five more stars and I unlock the hammer-pants.

I think the flag and star system is great. It means that people improve their posts, put more effort in and seek to make the quality of threads better, because if you make something quality you will get a flag. I kinda feel that without them the quality would go down.
