Whole cities underground?

Hello. I haven't posted here in a while, so I thought I'd ask this here. What do you all think about the possibility of there being large underground cities? I know there are Deep Underground Military Bases (DUMBs) as well as scientific experimental complexes which go underground, but what about whole cities? I ask this question mainly because there has been so much talk and speculation about what the year 2012 will bring. Will Planet X really bring forth extinction level catastrophic events? Were the Mayans right after-all? Also, why is every other song you hear on the radio mention the need to escape (fly away, get away, etc) while the remainder of them instruct the listeners to act silly and embrace their fate with a smile? (dance until the world ends?) Which is it? Fly away or dance and pray? What exactly are they trying to tell us?

I, for one, believe there are underground cities already in operation. Think about it. I don't think DUMBs are designed to hold whole populations. I think they are set up to be future places of government, located in-between functioning underground cities, to keep order amongst the future inhabitants of these underground cities. Obviously, I have no proof of this, only speculation.

I'm curious to know what others think? And if there are undergound cities, who will inhabit them/ are already inhabiting them? Celebrities? (the originals, not the clones :-)) World leaders? Royalty? Clergy? Great minds?

Let's discuss.

Very interesting! I have never heard about the underground cities of Cappadocia.

I have no doubt that undergound living would be conducive to small populations. I am just curious as to how a large population of civilians would fare down there. There would have to be all the comforts of current living available, to ease people into their new living environment and reduce stress from such a drastic change of scenery.

No.just look at what lack of exposure to the sun does to our physical and mental health.for.starters. second of all you wouldn't get the exercise you would above ground.
the only way to do this would be to build massive cities with all modern conveniences. Would be expensive as well.

Suppose we are about to build complexes underground for some cataclysmic event for us to survive
and we'd have to thrive underground and evolve there.
I mean, those places would become our whole world for thousands of years until we become more advance than the life above.
Or life, for us wouldnt be as adaquate as it was before we went under.
Could it might have been happening before?

First of all, the Mayans never predicted Worldwide destruction from Planet X. Not sure where you got that. Secondly though, I do believe there are already many cities underground. There is evidence to suggest that many governments have been undertaking new underground building plans.

Now that would be something to see.

My post may have been unclear, sorry. I only meant to connect the Mayans to 2012, not Planet X or the Apocalypse

I think so, too. When I first heard there were computer cables being run under vast oceans to enable global internet connections, I knew there must be a large amount of open underground space. I doubt this would have occurred if it wasn't already convenient to do so. Nobody is going to dig that length just to place cables underground.

Ooh, that's a thought. Could earlier creatures be living underground now? Will they pose a threat to our race if we are made to relocate?

I wouldn't mind meeting a fraggle. LOL

Those cables are just heavily jacketed and lay on the ocean floor with added weight to keep them from moving around or floating up. They actually get cut from time to time and its very expensive when it does.

Oh, the lack of sun definitely would pose a lot of issues. For instance, everyone would have to take vitamin d supplements in some form.

I'm sure they've thought of everything, though. There may even be an artificial "sun" meant to fool people. Not fool them overtly, but just to trick their sub conscience. As long as you can make someone feel as if they are in a familiar environment, they will adhere to that notion and adapt accordingly. Or at least I think...

Wow, I didn't know that, either. lol

Pic from hackocean.blogspot.com...

Can you imagine how much easier it would be to have underground cities to run those cables through?

Fascinating post.

I tend to believe that underground cities either exist or are being created or at the very least that there are plans for the creations of such. They would pose many interesting problems related to lack of above-ground environmental conditions necessary for our wellbeing, but they may also pose interesting solutions and alternate forms of habitable environments if say the "global warming" or any other environmental catastrophe does occur.

My speculations as to what they could currently be used for include detention of "enemies of the state" so to speak of the NWO, as well as safekeeping for NWO elite members.

In closing, I'm fairly certain that if we are well on our way to commonplace cities in outer space - in the form of space stations- or colonization of other planets perhaps, we must surely be heading towards further colonization of every inch of our own planet.

although the idea of underground cities might seem plausible, im not sure it would be possible. reason one being that it takes way too long for buildings, roads, infrastructure, etc. to be built now above ground, how long would it take to build them underground? military applications, yes, civilian applications, no, i dont believe we are important enough, in our governments eyes, for us civilians to be preserved. lol, when has the government done what was right for us no matter the cost to their wallets. also, not that i neccessarily agree with the 2012 theory, if there are earthquakes and eruptions caused by the planets aligning or whatever, i think there would be a huge issue with cave ins and collapses, just think mining accidents. the nuclear winter that would ensue due to the global eruptions would be very intense and last for a very long time. the energy required to sustain huge populations for any extended period of time underground ( air scrubbers, water filtration, lights, plumbing, etc ) would be astronomical.
