A meteor with a curved path below the clouds?
No.
By the time a meteor gets that low it is no longer incandescent and leaving no trail.
It's a jet contrail.

The one I saw in Brookings Oregon in the late 90's in Dec had a long fire behind it maybe 3 times as long as the ball of fire, and spitting big fat blue sparks of the front the fire behind was both red and yellow. I don't know altitude but lived 2 streets up a small mountain it was level with the picture windows and was traveling through the river valley in front of me. It was so big and could not be anything but a meteor I think?
I lived in the Smith River area around that time up the Canyon. I remember the talk of the town was about how the canyon and up beyond the mountains were glowing reddish/purple one night. Everyone at the fire dept. wanted to know if i had seen it or not....I didn't I was a sleep that night. For the life if me I want to say that was around '95 or '96...but that was a long time ago. So I can't really say for sure it it was related to your incident or not.
None the less, Brookings, Smith River, Crescent City, Klamath beautiful area to grow up in...with a few strange experiences to tell.

Wow that seems very likely! I looked it up and we lived there from 1996-98 That was up the Windchuck river and our windows were facing South, the object was going straight above the river or the mountains on the other side if it was even bigger then i thought it could have been further away...ing toward the sea. Wow could it have been all the way toward Smith River? if so we are talking HUGE!! The stuff shooting off it was not small I could see each blob of blue shooting forward in front of it...it was truly beautiful and terrifying. I actually thought it was right there in front of me just a hundred feet from the glass until I thought about it later. it was perfectly level the whole time it crossed the 3 huge windows right in the middle not angled down.
Like I said I called the Sheriffs office or some police office that night I was so stunned it was an incredible thing, it buckled my knees and I learned what people say about shock being true could not speak or breath for seconds ...afterwards all I wanted was for someone else to have shared my experience, I sent the report to meteor sites and stuff and no one responded. I know there was a major meteor shower at the time mentioned in the news in Washington state.
We had company for Christmas so it was December.
