Sixty-five arrested outside White House in oil pipeline protest

thehill.com

Police arrested 65 environmentalists outside the White House Saturday as they staged a demonstration urging President Obama to block a proposed pipeline that would bring oil from Canada’s oil sands projects to Gulf Coast refineries.

So much for peaceful protest huh? Looks like they decided the activists did not have the right to protest on the sidewalk and then shutdown the sidewalk. Those who failed to go got arrested.

I do not agree with the action taken here, why should someone need a permit to protest, doesn't that just defeat the point? If someone can just say, no your not aloud, its over? What is this?
For the land of the free and the home of the brave, that seems a little excessive isn't it?

The interesting thing is why would they be issued a permit and than have it revoked. Sounds like someone in the White House made a phone call.

I'm sure that the arrests are not a bad thing to the protesters as it brings attention to their demonstration but I don't see why they wouldn't be allowed to gather as that is their Constitutional right.

Sounds like a good case for the ACLU.

While I oppose their goals, they should be permitted to peacefully protest.

Welcome to fascist America where you "think you have constitutional rights, until you decided to exercise them" and people still think that America is the land of the free.

What a joke.

Make no mistake, Oil is the life's blood of the US economy, but protests against increased domestic production isn't what they are afraid of here.... It is how a protest like this can grow, and become a real threat. Best to crush it while it is small enough to manage.

The US government is becoming increasingly fearful, paranoid even of it's own people... And in these times, with their monumental F'-ups, deep corruption and corporate infiltration and control... THEY should be, very.

We haven't given up anything, it has been taken away quietly over time.

You know what they say?

"you never know what you have until it's gone"

Sadly, that reality is going to hit suddenly and hard for far to many Americans eventually.

But hey, we're still free right?
