I came across this video today. It only had 1 view. At first glance i too thought it was a chared peict of 2X4, but, its clearly not. Here's the video.

I assume its burnt from re-entry, and its folded up on the edge from driveway impact, but what the hell is it? Ive never seen any object constructed in compact tubes befor. Anyone have any insight, or thoughts? Please, post em here, or leave dude a comment on his video.

I was tempted to ask him to send me a piece. LOL!

A couple of the video comments say its the inners from a catalytic converter, however I disagree after looking at photos of inners. Also, it clearly looks as if it hit the ground.

Maybe a piece of a broken up satellite that came back to earth......

Or maybe a piece left over from the heat shielding from a shuttle but I thought they were ceramic tiles.

Could have been in orbit for some time before it came down to earth.

I'm no expert so ill star and flag this thread cause I wanna know too.

nice vid the smarties on here will know.

Phage's Cat Converter is probably right here. It does look like something you would use to provide a large surface area for a chemical reaction. Chemists use similar a lot.

ok sounds reasonable
but the holes are triangular form, which i cant find any pictures of in any cat.
but with the amount of makes and models out there im certain there will be a specific car that has that type of cat.
but we need to find it too prove 100% that we are looking at a cat part.

this Honeycomb looking material is used in panels on jet aircraft. and some light civil aircraft

www.directindustry.com...

Sometime this material around engine over heats and burns off.

I have found this type material on the approaches of the local military airfield many times.
And at crash sites.

Wow. You are so good. We need more people like you. I'm serious. There's so much out there that people let their imagination go nutso and we need people like you with some basic common sense to say

"Ummm. No. It's .....just...... this"

Thank you.

I also would like to take time out of my busy day to thank you Phage.

The OP built a ladder one speculative step at a time and asked us to climb it with him. No thanks.

In one single shot Phage felled the ladder and brought this guy back down to Earth.

We need more like you Phage!

Unfortunatly catalytic converter innards are square tubes,.... his is triangle. But I like the effort from you to claim it was something I said it wasnt right from the get go. As if you discovered it.

Now befor you go and hunt down converters that maight have triangle tubes, let me save you some time.

Some motorcycle converters DO have triangle tubes, but they arent really tubes, so much as layered 2/3 of a triangle that form an inclosed tube, and they look nothing like the object in the video.

It would appear to be the guts out of a Catalytic Converter possably from a "cheaper" import car, as they use cats that have triangular passage ways, since they are cheaper to produce than the square tube style. Or it might be the particulate filter from a diesel powered vehicle, some of them are triangular in shape as well, but the Cat guts theory has my bet. You can see in the Vid where the core has been crushed on one side (near his thumb) giving the core the "beam shape" that the Vid poster claims. I work in the aerospace industry, with composites, for a living and I can tell you that this didn't come from a aircraft structure or insulating blanket.

As I said, my oppinion would be the blown out guts from a import cat. I believe that Phage had it right. Good catch. Sorry OP, but if the shoe fits.........
