Girl phones mother while being eaten by bears

Not a particularly nice story. Bear (no pun intended) in mind it's from The Sun newspaper, and thus far I haven't been able to find the story elsewhere to corroborate it, but I see no reason for it not to be true.

Details are fairly sketchy, but a 19-year-old girl from Siberia apparently called her mother 3 times on her mobile phone while being eaten by a brown bear and its three cubs. Her stepfather was also killed.

Probably could happen, but given that it's from the sun and only there I wouldn't buy into it being 100% true. The Sun = Murdoch.

Yea pretty sick story really, how she managed to ring her mum and say "Im being eaten by a bear, im in agony" is beyond me?? I would have thought if you were being eaten alive the last thing on your mind would be a chat with your mum.

Wow, think how horrible her mother is going to feel. I would have nightmares forever and constantly hear my child's agonized voice in my head

Shocking; a nightmare the mother will live with all her life.

Oh man that's crazy. , but who the hell calls someone when being attacked?! what was her mom going to do?

When the only 'news' source is the Sun, I would be very wary accepting this at face value. A quick check of the internet shows that the only other sites discussing this are forums.... and of course... the Sun.

As the creature toyed with her, she managed to call her mom several times during the prolonged attack. Dang, how sad. I think we will probably hear about this more often as traditional territories shrink and food sources dwindle. Predatory animals will be coming into contact with people more often...

...russians use the term "mum" for mother?... i thought that was a british thang...

Russian paper or local news story would be more helpful and believable. I can't seem to find one, even after googling the girl's name....

Like the bear I have had the pleasure of chewing on quite a few of them on work trips to Moscow and St Petersburg..
