The cataclysmic pole shift hypothesis suggests that there have been geologically rapid shifts in the relative positions of the modern-day geographic locations of the poles and the axis of rotation of the Earth, creating calamities such as floods and tectonic events.[1] No form of the hypothesis is accepted amongst the scientific community. There is evidence of precession and changes in axial tilt, but this change is on much longer time-scales and does not involve relative motion of the spin axis with respect to the planet. However, in what is known as true polar wander, the solid Earth can rotate with respect to a fixed spin axis. Research shows that during the last 200 million years a total true polar wander of some 30° has occurred, but that no super-rapid shifts in the Earth's pole were found during this period.[2] A characteristic rate of true polar wander is 1° per million years or less.[3] Between approximately 790 and 810 million years ago, when the supercontinent Rodinia existed, two geologically-rapid phases of true polar wander may have occurred. In each of these, the Earth rotated ~55°.[4]

I was reading a thread yesterday where someone mentioned that if we had a pole shift the land would move so fast that people in underground bunkers would be wiped out anyway. Then a bunch of people were arguing about what depth these bunkers would be where they wouldnt be affected. LOL
The thing is when a pole shifts, its just the magnetic poles, the land doesnt twist round and suddenly antarctica is in the North and Santa Claus wakes up in a different hemisphere!

I really hope you are joking that people believe that! Please link to the thread. I hope people do some a little bit of research and realize that pole shift isn't talking about the land actually moving! It's obviously Nibiru!
ps- I bet you DO in fact, have a beard.edit on 14-8-2011 by superman2012 because: (no reason given)

I'm no professor or scientist, but it seems to me that during and immediately after a magnetic pole shift, the stresses on every Earthquake fault across Earth will change almost instantly. Those with no stress? Probably no biggy, I'd think. I sure wouldn't want to live next to one that hasn't popped off in a long long time though. Oh..wait..I live near the New Madrid. nvm

Some say the MAGNETIC pole shift caused the dinosaurs to die off (no not fly upside down and crash). due to their dependance on the magnetic pole, but humans are not as affected by it, or adapted.
