Why doesn't the US Army use the rank of Field Marshall? Most armies throughout the world have a rank of Field Marshall but the US for some reason use the rank of 5 Star General.instead, Just curious.

America have to try and always be different

The same reason they use the imperial system.

to be different even though the imperial system is a failure (thats why universities, especially sciences always use metric in the US)

I don't know the answer to your question but i guess because it just stuck and they didnt wanna change it and got used to it or perhaps there were to many field marshalls dicking around

Because the rank of 5 star General was created in 1944 awarded to George Marshals. the term Marshall was a term used for senior law enforcement officers U.S Marshalls in particular but also state and local law enforcement.

The term field Marshal was considored but the that would have meant that the first U.S Field Marshall would have been Field Marshall Marshals.

Cultural diversity, no two places are exactly the same. This is because the universe tries lots of different things to find out what works and what does not to try and gradually improve things over time.
