It looks like, to me, the insides of a cheap talking/vibrating toy. The center square with holes in it are generally how cheap speakers in plastic are covered. The things etched into it would then be whatever they wanted to scratch into cheap plastic.

Thanks, CynicalDrivel, for the not-so drivelly cynicism.

Great idea for what it may be. Seriously.

Do you think it is possible that it was mass produced then? I ask because if whoever made it made more than one then we should be able to find an example out there somewhere.

Thanks for the input.

Yep, it really is suggestive of some kind of household item and the symbols look like they were meant to be universally recognizable; and that is one of the things that really frustrates me about this object.

Thanks so much.

Ya know what? Check this out.

I was looking at the Manga comic and noticed that, instead of the 'leaf on a stalk' that seems to be represented on the bottom of the thing, the Manga shows a bird.

So I took another detail of the bottom...

It does look a bit to me like a bird is carrying the 'leaf on a stalk' or whatever it may be.

The images on the bottom are beginning to make me think of an ark somehow.

Oh, man! So frustrating.

It dawned on me that I hadn't checked to see that it might not be a vintage Ikebana flower vase.

I think this is the best contender yet for a mundane item but I just can't find anything like the Kera Object.

Man, I was sure I had it there. Arrrgh.

The thing is I think I've seen one before that was shaped like that, and that color even, but I don't remember for sure, so this is a relatively old memory. I do know that a lot of the upright singing toys will have that bell shape with the speaker at the bottom--just not necesscerily the big wing all the way around it. Just go and look at the Halloween toys at WalMart for a plush singing witch or something. Pull out the machine and see if it looks like the speaker lines up with that central square.

Now, could this thing have been a real ufo that they couldn't document, and someone took a pic of something that looked similar to them? Sure. Could I just be out of my mind and seeing something again that I never saw? Sure.

The Drivel part is mocking myself because my facebook name was Cynical"SomethingNotRepeatedHere". There, the name was serious. Here the name is not.

The last symbol looks like a person bending down to pick up something
Am I crazy or what? Someone picking rice maybe?

No, you aren't out of your mind, you probably have seen something like it and that is exactly why I started this thread.

We'll get to the bottom of it; the right combo of people may show up to the thread and we will put it together.

So you think it may have been a singing toy or some kind of noise making, vibrating toy. I wouldn't put it past the Japanese to make such a thing, as I said, we just have to find another one. And I bet we do.

It would have had to have been made prior to 1973.

Thanks again.

Ok out on a limb here. Is this describing Noah’s ark? Or am I really stretching out too far now lol
The water, the bird with grass or grain and the ark?

Yeah, it sure looks like one. That is why I got excited that it might be the Ikebana vase because the images suddenly seemed to me like ones you might find on a vase like that.

It does look like a bird with something in its mouth; or even what we think of when we think of a dove of peace.

Peace.

That's what I was sayin', that's where my mind goes; that's predictable though

if the bird was a dove, and the thing in its mouth was an olive branch, then Noah's Ark would be a plausible reference.

The entire object looks very much like one of those recessed hibachis that set into the middle of the table at several different styled asian restaurants. It's used to sear or otherwise warm the food brought to your table.

Here is a modern gas-fired version.

This looks like a wood/charcoal version where the waiter takes the cover off and fills it with hot embers just before the food arrives.

Seriously, to me that last symbol looks like a person picking up something. Also reminds me of an Indian dressed as a big eagle dancing around at a traditional ceremony. Anyone else see this?

Nice, nice call.

“The frequent nights out of the boys began to worry parents, I told my son if it was true what he said, to bring the object. He did: it was something like an ashtray, cast iron, but too light for this metal. (It) had a top down it was impossible to open and inside were pieces similar to a radio. I did not give more importance, but now I regret not having studied more closely.”

Matsuo Fujimoto. The boy Miro's father.

I hadn't thought of a hibachi. It appears that it would have been a 'personal' hibachi due to its size, but it gives me something to dig for.

I'm going to go look for little vintage Japanese hibachis. It may have come from another country as well.

Thank you for the input, SO.

It does kind of, but they don’t have wires n stuff inside them, I thought I read that there was like computer chips and wiring in it. I’ll go back and re read the whole thread.

ive seen one of those coal thigys in a resturant before, and it wasnt flying about. would have been a funny if it did though. my mum would have wet her self lol

It does look very much like a hibachi.

I see no pictures anywhere of any electronics inside so perhaps the story was a joke that evolved?
