So we can keep throwing good money after bad on nonsense like this:

ARTICLE

I'm sick to death of hearing about how we're in such a crisis that we must eat the poor and middle class BUT we can still afford to do things like this...

and this

ARTICLE 2

We're continually asked by the GOP to make the "tough decisions" and sacrifices. Let's see some from the bloated defense budget.

No wonder we have Americans who can't afford food because they bought the latest iphone. Such a lovely example the government sets for its people.

My city is a prime example, can't afford to fix the roads but we have money for fancy new light posts and other beautifying projects.

I really should be teaching my kids this kind of economics, I had it all backwards with the buy what you need, save for what you want approach.

If we're going to end social security and the rest, I would like a refund for all the money I paid into it ..

The program is fine if it were used as intended.. but it's not, they dip into the pot for military spending and to cover those who haven't paid into it at all .. I know people who've not worked a day of their life and are fully capable but they live off benefits and they know they can .. if the abuse of the system were controlled and if the government kept their fingers out of the cookie jar then it would be a great system.

I've paid a ton into those systems, so if they are to be ended, I should be refunded.. as should everyone who's put into it.

Should not the people be setting examples for the government?

I was about to post this, but figured nah, someone else would beat me.

Anyway.. I thought the same thing.. Something like $320,000,000 wasted for what???

More advanced weaponry!? A system to deliver a punch in a matter of minutes...

All that money, and they lose the damn thing.

Holy s**t America.. We're already capable of destroying the planet 10-fold...

Let's just play with the toys we have.

I too think that Social Security, Medicare and Social Programs should be ended without a refund to the people who paid into it.

That way we can get on with the riotous joy about to happen next.

It is a novel ideal, however, there is a slight problem with what the op has proposed. Millions of people have paid into the social security system, medicare and other social programs. Such is taken out of every paycheck, every time one is printed and goes out. So while one could say, we should cut those programs, how then do you propose to reimburse that money back to the people who paid into it in the first place? Is it fiscally responsible and feasible for the US government to do such, and then what happens when the elderly runs out of money? Who wants to be the person responsible for putting grandma out on the street or seeing the elderly go hungry? What would replace such, and where would the accountability for such?
And then there is the money that was paid into the system and never claimed, as the person died, would their realitives be entitled to that money?

Stop bashing the job creators! Jeez already! Gawd!

They're only protecting their bottom line by putting the Chinese to work. - Or- helping out their military manufacturing buddies by entering a need for a new stealth fighter every decade. What is so wrong with that?

Why do we need taxpayer dollars to help the less fortunate or elderly? They're like not even real people.

If the middle and lower class really cared about their mortgage, they would pray to Jesus or get a babysitting job. Seriously.

If we got rid of social security then my mom would have no income. She can no longer work because of her ever advancing, crippling Crohn's disease. I understand the frustration of people being on SSI who has never worked a day in their lives and is fully capable and those people need to be found out and dealt with accordingly. But don't punish the ones who need it. My mom needs it. She worked year and years for it. It's her money.

The premise is a good one. But the govt should only be there to kick-start the family-pooled health-welfare-retirement combined accounts. All the money going into FICA and as much as you can afford each paycheck goes into a PRIVATELY HELD, multi-generational account that no Govt can ever touch in any way directly, indirectly or once removed indirectly through hidden taxation, fees, licensing, tarriffs or any type of regulation that MIGHT be in the slightest be considered to infringe upon the pooled account. After the second generation, families will be able to take care of families, police themselves, purchase private catastrophic health insurance, financially come together to the aid of their own family. Now you have to be a family, instead of everyone going lone wolf like after WWII, and eventually the culture will change back to family taking care of family instead of individuals looking to the govt. to take care of them.

To kick-start it, the fed-govt must give all the SS ever collected in a lump sum that every family-pool member has put in to date. They must ALL put in all 401K money, all retirement accounts. Don't give me that it's me. it's mine crap. This is still yours, it's your family, your blood.

It will take a generation to become solvent and begin the miracle of compound interest. Donations from one family pool account to a neighbors pool that's in trouble will be encouraged, no taxes or penalties. Businesses that pay the other 6.7% of FICA instead give it to your pool account and not the govt.

This is just a little of the outline but there is more very critical stipulations that will be required to make it work nation-wide.

Well that annoys me because the govt. takes a large chunk from my check, so to end it with nothing returned is a bit frustrating.. . end it and start sending me small monthly checks and I'll save it myself.. I have retirement accounts ( 2 ) and saving accounts, and I do investing.. so I'm not just expecting the government to take care of me.. I work my tail off.. but I don't like the idea of having thrown away such large amounts of money over time for nothing.

Relax dude, it's some guy on the internet with a crazy idea.

My plan would be to have an opt out plan. Pay into it until you are 35 years old, and at that time you get the option to get every dollar you paid into Social Security in one lump sum, and never receive future benefits. Option 2 would to continue as usual and get your benefits. At 35 you should have a general idea about your future, and it's your money you are getting back to use to invest.

social security medicaid and medicare are all scams

they all work by taking money from people who arent using the system to pay for those who are.

the first government check aka social security then they pay a free called medicare two wrongs make stupidity.

people need to take care of themselves

so i agree with the op if you support social securirty and medicare you are supporting criminal actions.

deal with it;.

i swear how did americans ever make it for 200 years before the great saviors of the republic came in to save the day opps that is destroying this country and its people.

all that goodness and joy all paid for by someone else with a gun being held to their heads.....

yeah thats real morality.

Just because the OP wrote a thread about what he/she wanted to get spread, doesnt mean it will be a reality.

Capitalism isn´t the way to go, if it was. The market would be steady today.

It was used for something. When little georgie gave his tax breaks to his buddies revenue had to come from somewhere so he emptied out the trust fund to make up for it. And now the gop wants to cry and say people are being robbed. As usual the regressives want to blame everyone else for their failures.

We need capitalism? Oh please this country was doing great until we started with the capitalism crap. There was plenty of money for social programs, the war machine and we had next to no national debt as compared to now. When capitalism and the free market was forced on America it started going down hill.
