Well, as the saying goes, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

In this case I guess it just depends on which you place more value on; Human life or television sets.

You and the rioters at least have that much moral weave in common. They'll kill someone for a TV, and you'll kill them if they touch your stuff.

Do not ignore the wisdom of your forefathers.

The policy of “shoot to kill” in regard to looting, didn’t come from a vacuum. It came from hard learned lessons. If you take any mercy, they will use it against you.

If you will not kill them for stealing stuff, then they will learn that fact and use it against you. They will present you with a situation where the only way you can stop them is by killing them in mass, then you have to just stand back and do nothing because your sensibilities prohibit you from doing anything.

In a modern city, it is very easy to overpower the police force. The only thing that prevents gangs and groups from trying it is the full understanding that they will die by the dozen if they tried such things. Once you take away the fear of capital punishment for trying such stuff, then you no longer have anything to restrain the wild haired side of a city’s population. The mob can take control and do as they please.

Once a population takes that turn, the only thing left to restrain the wild side of the population is the rest of the population. And that will only work if they have access to the same weapons as the people they are trying to control.

You don’t kill the looter because you put the value of the TV higher than his life. You kill the looter because you won’t let the looter use your own sensibilities against you.

Once you let someone use your own sensibilities against you, then will do it again and again. Before you know it, you will have nothing, and you will be in a life threatening situation. Did any individual item the looters took put you in that situation? No. But the entire ball of wax put together, put you in a situation where you have no home, no place to work, no business, no car, no money, and no food to feed your family. So yes, every looter that took from you put a collective gun to the heads of you and your family. And you have every right in a free land to kill every one who would dare to put you in that situation. It is righteous self defense.

Defense of life and property….. Because life can not be sustained without something to support that life, so an attack on your property is by default, an attack on your well being, no mater how unrelated that piece of property may be.
