The Newsweek cover photo of Michele Bachmann is causing a controversy in that she looks absolutely crazed in the cover photo. The distant look in her eyes and the somewhat haunted smile is extremely unflattering.
The photo (in the link) has been called a sexist move, an anti-conservative move, or just plain anti-Bachmann.
Apparently, the article accompanying the photo is not causing a stir, however.
Since Newsweek did a similarly shocking photo of Palin in running shorts some time ago, I think they're anti-conservative and trying to make conservatives look bad.

Oh...my...god. Something about her, especially in that cover, feels uncanny. Almost like she appears to be some old [famous] man with a wig.

Or a reptilian.

A disturbing photo, but putting all that aside you'd have to be crazy to vote this woman into office. She's already pledged to base half of the important decisions on whether or not it coincides with the 'holy scripture'.

This woman is pure evil so I don't see what can be done to make her look better.

In any case she would look worse without make-up. Not sure why it would be sexist.... do people even know what that word stands for ?

Typical. Ignore the issues and stay focused on the superficial.

If you don't like her stances, then easy, don't vote for her. But basing electability on just looks is juvenile and simplistic at best.

But, it's something the progressive movement appears best at.

She looks pretty crazy anyway...it's not hard.

Here's her official photo. Compare that to the newseek cover, I don't see a huge difference.

Unfortunately for Michele Bachmann, Newsweek claims that her photos went from bad to worse. She looks like a maniac in all of them. She purposely tried to look this way. Maybe she thought it made her look presidential. Don't blame Newsweek. That's like blaming Katie Couric because Sarah Palin is in idiot. Woe to our country if either one of these is elected.

Y'know, Michele Bachmann isn't unattractive normally. She has a nice smile, and beautiful eyes. But that picture is one of the worst I've ever seen of her. Very unflattering.

I don't understand what all the hub bub is about. Sure she looks crazy as hell, but um.... she also looks crazy as hell in like, every photo or TV appearance I've seen her in, so... yeah...

Oh, and all the evangelicals who believe the world is 6000 years old, and that the gays can be cured by god are also bat[snip] crazy. Now, I'm not big on Bachmann, and I'm no expert on her (she's never said anything I've heard that peaked my interest, more or less only heard her say things that make me give out a large sigh), but isn't she kind of the ideal representative for bat[snip] crazy?

She looks crazy as fuc.....I don't want to judge the woman because I haven't heard her polices and whatnot but my god. That picture speaks volumes but everywhere I seen her she doesn't look right

Of course you think Newsweek is "against" conservatives. And i'll bet you think that despite never reading Newsweek. becuase someone told you Newsweek is a liberal publication. And you don't read those!

Fact is, Newsweek is about as "liberal" as a sheet of cardboard... It's also about as conservative as a sheet of cardboard. Both Newsweek and Time try really, really hard to not give offense to anyone, resulting in something only slightly less bland than last week's "Family Circus."

Bachman looks unattractive on the cover of Newsweek because, well, she's unattractive. 'course her looks don't say anything about her as a person - but then we're talking about an audience who clamor for palin becuase she has nice legs, so I guess an unflattering picture of a very-hard-to-flatter woman is going to get them in a tizzy, since, well, some people DO judge on appearance.

You realize that he's trying to support Bachman, and is accusing Newsweek of being a "liberal rag" because of this?

That's one of your own judging capability on appearance there, Beezzer.

You guys and your cannibalism, it's so cute.

Actually, he's pointing out a typical leftist tactic. USING looks to sway opinion.
But go on, blather away. . . .

Ah, here I thought you were berating him
Misread on my part.

Though, gotta tell you straight man. Never seen a leftist actually take the particular tack you're accusing us of. I mean really, we're the team with Kucinich, Ted Kennedy, Cynthia McKinney? I mean okay, Kucinich's wife is hot (she was part of his severance package when he retired from Santa's Workshop.) and Obama was a good-looking guy before he stepped into the presidential age-o-matic. Aside from them? We look like a D&D group at band camp. Not a lot of room for criticism in the looks department

Now, well... I dunno about you personally, Beezer, but I do know that the right's main man Rush Limbaugh famously stated that not only was Chelsea Clinton - then 16 - the "white house dog" but also that her father was Janet Reno. I do suspect there's probably a telling reason why all the news anchors on Fox are airbrushed, eyelined, bottled blondes with nice tits. And i'm dead certain that no onecheered for palin becuase of her sound policy and novel ideas. And of course, i've seen this tossed around just a little too often to completely shake the notion that the right doesn't ever judge on appearances.

So maybe you're a great guy who judges on positions and statements and character. But, far as I can tell, a lot of the rest of your team doesn't.

I am sure Newsweek used the best picture they could find from that photoshoot. She is just trying to look presidential and failing miserably.

Can't say for the rest of my "team" (???) but I've tried to focus on policy, issues, programs.
I would hate for any lefty to accuse me of bias towards looks, gender, sexual preference, melanin content, just because I disagree with a persons politics.
As for the FOX NEWS babes? Do what I do when I watched Baywatch.
Turn the volume down.
