Many ATS users have agreed that there's a decent chance of American citizens revolting against the government if something like the Patriot Act II was ever passed into law.

Does anybody beleive that parts of this act have already been taken, and passed by other means, maybe those less known or monitored by people keeping up with this stuff? Is it possible that the people aware of this act, are keeping watch only on the entire thing, not really knowing that it can all the while be slightly dismanteled and passed in parts?

Personally, I have no idea, I'm just offering it as a possibilty. I don't live in the States either, so it's not really a huge concern of mine either. It's still something good to think about though, can't be ignorant on these types of huge issues...

When I looked into this a bit with google, this website came up.

Any thoughts on the matter, or site?

Well if you try this Google Search you will see that several places are reporting the fact that portions of the Patriot Act II have been passed under other bills.

The Patriot Acts have large portions where they amend OTHER legislation. The republi-crats are passing those sections simply by amending the targeted legislation directly.

As for the incident at the time of Hussein's "discovery", I have no reason to doubt the story. I assume that someone could obtain a copy of the bill signed by the pResident on that Saturday to see for themselves.

Hm...so do you guys think we'll see another try to pass the full bill, or will these alternative measures be taken until as many of their goals are accomplished?

What you do if you have a bill unacceptable to the American public? You pass it quietly in bits and pieces as add ons to other bills.

Americans are too busy watching 'Reality' TV and infotainment to actually pay attention to what their government is doing.

In the end maybe you have to blame the American public. They don't get involved, don't pay attention, and in the end they get shafted.

Non-thread question: If a company moves it's headquarters off shore to evade taxes, doesn't that make it illegal for that company to lobby the US government?

The latter I would say.

Everyone is on the lookout for a new version of Patriot. Right now the republi-crats are proceeding under the media radar. I see no reason to change that strategy. Seems to me like calssic Karl Rove type stuff.

They are partly to blame for not questioning anything that comes their way, living in their 'bubbles'. But...in a country where your pounded non-stop by ideas (of those in control), through media (which has become so integrated into our lives we know not how to live without it), and other means, it's hard to do something. You just don't know any better.

When their lives get affected in a drastic way, they'll hopefully wake up and open their eyes. By then it'll unfortunately be too late though.
